I have never considered Rush a Metal band or a Hard Rock band, but more so a Progressive Rock band. But that's just my opinion.

Oh it seems I have forgotten the word progrssive, but that was supposed to be the meaning. It should be: Are they a progressive/hard rock band or moe progressive metal?

While they can get heavy at some times, Rush are most definitely a prog rock band.
Also their music rocks:metal:

Right, the progressive rock label is the one that fits the best, in fact they are pioneers of the genre. If you want progressive metal you should check out Dream Theater (which is much heavier).

I wouldn't consider Rush to be metal. Definitely hard rock. Amazing band.

Generally, I'd say Prog. However, having been developing their style for around 45 years now, it's kinda hard to group them into just one genre. They started out with a hard rocky-metal vibe from Rush (the album) up until 2112. Songs like The Necromancer and 2112 had some obvious progressive feelings to them, but in essence I'd still say they were metal or hard rock, at least for their time. After that we get into the classic progressive Rush from A Farewell to Kings to Moving Pictures.
From here on we get to a bit of a slump for some Rush fans: The Synth Era! Personally, I love these albums just as much as any other Rush album, but I totally understand anyone who is a bit taken aback by the lack of Alex on many of these tracks. After that we get the weirder post-synth, "return to guitar" albums: Presto and Roll the Bones, both of which own a silly little place in my heart. Counterparts and Test for Echo start to bring back some harder rock elements partially due to a shift in producers.
Then we start getting some harder stuff. Vapor Trails, Snakes and Arrows, and Clockwork Angles all have quite the hard rock feel to them, but I feel CA brings back some Progressive ideas very well. Anyways, that's my take on it. One genre really doesn't cut it for a band like Rush.

No problem, they are easily my favorite band so I figured I'd give my two cents :3

Lol if that's the case, then have you heard anything yet about dates for this "massive" 2015 tour they are supposedly having?
