A Sydney jury has found a teenager guilty of murdering a 15-year-old schoolgirl who was stabbed 48 times on the NSW Central Coast.
The NSW Supreme Court jury of seven women and five men took about 90 minutes to reach their verdict on Thursday.
The 18-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had pleaded not guilty to murdering Tania Burgess.
She was repeatedly stabbed on her way home from school while walking through the carpark of the Forresters Beach Resort in July 2005.
Justice Robert Hulme will hear sentencing submissions on June 6.
As the guilty verdict was delivered, the teenager briefly looked across at his parents, who were seated in the front row of the public gallery throughout the trial.
As he left the court, Tania's father Chris Burgess said he and Tania's mother Mandy were pleased.
"We're really happy with the results," he said.
"We think the police have done a fantastic job, the crown prosecutor's been great and that's all we really have to say for the moment."
