Hi all!

So my birthday is on friday.

I really want a dog from the shelter and/or horseback riding lessons (jumping, at least once a week).

I've been wanting a dog for forever but my parents keep saying no. We have rabbits as pets and chickens for eggs already, but they've known my hear is always with dogs.

I've wanted jumping lessons for FOREVER. I've just been to scared to ask my parents. I"m pretty busy during the week (play tennis most days, piano lessons, a seperate math course, and school) but I think I could fit riding in.

My plan is to right in a journal MY NAMES 2014 BIRTHDAY WISHLIST

- a dog
- horseback riding lessons(jumping at least once a week

, and leave this open on my bedroom desk, hoping for my parents to see it.

I know if I just asked them, they would say something rude in a joking way I guess, and that just really get's me antsy.

Please post with any suggestions!!!

Well ask about riding lessons, they can't get it for you if you don't ask. The way I got my rescue dog is by going to a hockey game, strange, I know. But try shelters often have events in places other than their shelter, so go on something like petfinder to find a shelter and then see when their events are and take your parents, they usually are more prone to give in if the dog is right there. Your idea isn't bad its just there is no guarantee they'll actually read it.

Just ask, don't bother with a plan like that, won't work.

Or you could just get what you get and be thankful your parents have enough disposable income to buy you anything. That's what I do, not that I actually like receiving gifts, makes me feel bad for accepting them. Don't know why.

Only you know your parents and if you think that would work then give it a try maybe you could add some detail like how you would fit in the horse time and when - could be good reason about not getting you a dog as you are so busy anyways when would you fit in dog walks etc but all you can do is try and if not birthday then christmas is not far aways.

Happy Birthday

Thanks everyone!

I know I may sound like a spoiled brat, but trust me i'm not. My parents are not poor. The are members of a fancy country club and they remodel their house so often with unbelievably expensive furniture... The also insist on paying for tennis and piano lessons for me and my brother (I've told them a number of times that I really can't stand tennis, but they still insist on it. My dad wants me to do a sport and something that would look good on a collage application. I love animals, so I thought why not horseback riding. I mean you don't see any fat riders. THey are aware I love horses, as I volunteer at a horse rescue and a therepudic riding school)

So, my parents are taking me on a trail ride on saturday...

lol, maybe I should read posts before I post them...

Thanks for the help. I don't really consider myself a "brat", but I guess i'm "spoiled". I live in my parents house, and it's my parents money, so I really don't want to consider it mine. I want to work for what I do and get. It's just... one way or another, my parents want me to do something (which is awesome, I know as most people don't even get a choice), but I'd rather do something a really want to do than do something I hate.

Also, my mom was in my room yesterday, and apparently she read it. She came up to me earlier today and said, "If you want, you can use your money for some horseback riding lessons." So, I guess it worked.
