Hi!
First of all im new to this forum and i really want to get direct answers about a problem ive been having for the past month..
I normally start school at 8AM and wake up at 6AM (1 hour trip to school) but i normally go to sleep at 1AM since i'm literally addicted to "twitch.tv/lirik" (He streams from 17.00 GMT - 01.00 GMT). So that means i sleep for roughly 5 hours.I'm not sure if i should try to change my sleeping routine as quickly as possible or if its okay to stick with this.
I'm 14 and i'm asian, i'm not sure if that helps someone to solve the problem here.. really been worried about this routine i started following.
I hope someone can give me an advice, really need one ;(
I also hope that i haven't posted in the wrong section, forgive me if i'm wrong :D

try to get some more sleep. shut off the tv and stuff. if you exercise during the day, later that night you'll be tired. drink water, eat right (not lots of sugary pops and energy drinks late at night)
there is many things you can try. but get some more sleep for sure

First of all Welcome to the site.
You really need more than 5 hours of sleep, you should have at least 7 or 8 hours. Otherwise you won't be able to work at your full potential. But then again, everyone is different, some people can get away with little sleep, some can't. Only person that can decide is you, if it is clearly effecting your school work, because your too sleepy to concentrate then its obviously a problem. BUT if you are capable of completing your work to a good standard and don't feel sleepy all day, then its not really an issue.
Due to...stuff...I have huge problems sleeping, I often get less than 3 hours. It really does effect college but I can't change it untill I change the unchangeable stuff. Catch 22. And from personal experience I can say that sleep deprivation is horrid, you fee like some sort of Zombie.
Anyway, hope that helped, and once again, welcome to VT, hope you enjoy your stay

You could adopt a Biphasic sleep schedule. Although this only works for some people. That basically means sleeping two seperate times a day. I personally sleep from 4-5 AM to 10AM every day (first class at 11) and do a 30 min to 1 hr power nap every afternoon. The first week kinda stinks. Once you become acclimated to it however, then you feel just as refreshed as sleeping a normal period of time. If you want you could give it a try

That isn't a good sleep schedule to some. I'm not saying that it can't work out for you. It's just not a normal sleep pattern. I understand you enjoy the internet. I am guilty of it myself, you like to stay up and do stuff on the computer. However, you are going to have to make an effort. Cut off the computer and get a couple more hours rest. If you want to stay up late some nights, remember to get rest maybe earlier in the day. When you come home after dinner or whatever take a rest then. So that way you get the full hours of sleep but they are in different segments. :)

Even though many teens get less than seven hours of sleep, it's really bad for their bodies. It's best for you to get more sleep because lots of health concerns arise when you're sleep deprived. Just record the livestream and watch it later! You should prioritize your health.

Yeah, I'm close to the same situation as you. Here are some good ways to improve sleep:
>Turn off all devices at least half an hour before bed. You can the read or something and then sleep
> Give yourself a routine, day and night. So every night you should brush your teeth at 10 and then drink a cup of water and then be in bed by 10:30, etc. Then, in the morning too. Wake up at 6, get up and go to the toilet, go on your computer to check the weather, etc.
> Sleep at the same time. No matter what. You should always keep this cycle going. Your body/brain will create a cycle for itself. Always sleep at this time and always wake up at 6.
> Only use your bedroom for sleeping. People say that if you do everything in your room (e.g. studying, video games, sleeping, etc) that your brain will get the idea that you do stuff in your room, but if you only use your room to sleep, your brain would be more inclined to sleep in your room.
I can't remember much now, but if you go on ASAPthought, they have a video called "How to get better sleep" or something like that. It's pretty much everything I just said.
Good luck~ :D

Does Twitch have any way to view previous streams of that user? I don't know much about Twitch, but I know that it's a streaming service.
If you really like that user, maybe you could compromise to one night a week? 5 hours a night might really end up straining you- if nothing else, your mind cannot perform at its best.
Also, is it just the streaming that's keeping you from sleep, or do you actually have problems trying to get to sleep as well?

It depends on the person. When I was 13-14 I was getting around 3-5 hours sleep a night and coping fine. A couple years before that I had insomnia and it was annoying but I still managed. Now I get 5 hours a night and that's all I need, if I get any more then I'm knackered the next day.
How do you cope during the day? Are you really fatigued and unable to properly work at school? If this is the case then yes, you need to change your sleeping pattern and think about what's right for your health and not just what you want. We can't really tell you what works for you, you need to try other things and find out how long you need to sleep to keep you refreshed and awake during the day.
