So I went on a date yesterday to the mall with this guy friend. I didn't know it was a date when I went at first, but he was holding my hand and we were cuddling on a bench together and he was kissing me and complimenting me and stuff like that. Stuff did happen and all that and when I asked later he said he does like me a lot and I really like him and he made comments saying how he doesn't want any other guy to hurt me and he really cares and wants to be there for me and stuff like that and I want us to be boyfriend and girlfriend but I'm wondering do I honestly have to ask for that to be official? Or would it just kind of be obvious after our date? I don't know what to really do or if we are official or not already. Any advice would be great thanks :)

Go on a few more dates with him first and then ask him if it is official maybe?

I suppose it depends what stuff happened. Sounds good though. Probably you should ask to make sure you both feel the same.

Ask to avoid confusion. Enjoy your relationship.

Like the others are saying, ask. You just never know- for whatever reason, there may be a miscommunication, and someone could wind up upset/hurt.
It'd be pretty erroneous, for example, for me to think my best friend and I are a couple- he's pretty much adamantly against being my boyfriend. However, considering the nature of our relationship, and what goes on between us, one could definitely mistake us for a couple.
However, this isn't likely to happen- my best friend is a complicated lil shit. I bet you most guys are not going to be as odd about their... Affections.

I recommend being all "sneaky" in the process of asking him. I verified that me and my overly obsessive long distance ex were in a relationship by accident; i switched the words "relation" and "relationship" around, saying something like "but i don't want to mess up our relationship" and thereby confirming that we were in one.
I really don't know how to approach this well- but the above mentioned worked for me. Although i'm not experienced anywhere on this subject at all, i still recommend you take a stealth approach.

it is official when you two agree to make it official. you two should talk about it

it's official when you both decide it is I think, it's not the most important thing in the world though.
