Haha, every sport. Name a sport and I probably enjoy watching or playing it. My top 5 have to be Basketball, Baseball, Football, Hockey, and Soccer. I also like to watch lacrosse (I can't play it for my life), I like to play volleyball, I like tennis, badminton and ping pong aren't bad, wrestling (both "real" and "fake") are of my interest, I like to watch any type of racing (boat races, air races, NASCAR, etc.), I like pretty much anything..

You practice BJJ by any chance?
Groundwork Judo style is usually berserk drive to pin, hold down 25 seconds for the win but I like to play with a more submission heavy style. Sure I'll hold a pin if I have to but I'd rather play in guard and armbar collar choke from inside guard attempts that judoka love for some reason.
I wish I could do BJJ but it's still relatively unknown in Quebec, we're still at the stage of "oh lawd they're hugging on the ground again cut the gay shit". So it's just unavailable to me. When it does though I'll have a good basis due to Judo.
I love watching gi and nogi high level competitions, like Abu Dhabi or the Mundials. Even NAGA and Grappler's Quest. Human chess is t3h funzies.

I'm not training in BJJ atm, I'm not actually doing any martial arts right now. I have done in the past though and I'm sure I will do at one point again. I'm into some other side projects and it wouldn't really be possible to train in MMA or BJJ due to a few reasons.
I agree with everything you've said basically, I even know somebody who referred to guys rolling with gi's as 'the pyjama boys wrestling'. Not many people understand it and are ignorant, it's hugely underated in my eyes.
www.mma-core.com - www.grappling-core.com
Particularly the second link, I've watched some nogi comps before on there, there's some big names competing too. I've seen some stuff from Grappler's Quest also and the odd little bit of gi JJ.
MMA is also not as well known here in England, it's quite bugging that there are few places to train. Along with that, there's very few 'hardcore' fans around to speak to about it. Even guys that train at the same gym as me in BJJ and/or MMA don't know some of the stuff I'm talking about. Surely you'd think that if they trained in a sport or practised it, then they'd follow it closely too.

Yeah it's quite a shame that people are taken by the flashy and the ineffectual rather than more sensible training methods and martial art styles.
I personally feel the striking game a little boring and I'd rather they hug on the ground again but that's because my striking game is non-existant and I just know grappling. I would eventually like to develop one, I think I'd take to something like Boxing well. No Muay Thai in my area.
I dunno if you've watched Newton vs Sakuraba in Pride. It's on youtube, it's a really great MMA match that is almost always on the ground. They almost seem to have a tacit vow that they would not stand and dish it out. It's amazing in its technicality.

I've seen loads of Sakuraba's fights, but I don't think I've seen the one with Newton lol, and I claim to be a hardcore fan!?
My striking is ok, I'm confident with kicks especially. I love muay thai but haven't had the chance to train specifically in it, I'm good on the ground and enjoy all sorts of grappling, mostly nogi though. If you're looking for some ground matches I can probably think of a few off the top of my head. You can find them all on that mma-core site. Jeremy Horn vs Rousimar Palhares (UFC 93), Clay Guida vs Tyson Griffin (UFC 72) or any Demien Maia fight, particularly his triangle sub from the top against Ed Herman. Kevin Randleman vs Bas Rutten was also quite an interesting fight, Bas won using strikes from the bottom, unheard of in those days.
I'll have to remember some more good fights that contain a lot of explosive grappling and good submission attempts. There are some stand up fighters I enjoy watching though, like Alistair Overeem, Antoni Hardonk, Cheick Kongo and Andrei Arlovski.
Do you have any favourite fighters/fights?

My favourite is Karo Parisyan, he's using my art in the ring after all.
Fedor Emelianenko of course, Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic, Georges St. Pierre, BJ Penn, I'm a HUGE fan of Kazushi Sakuraba as well.
As for matches :
Sakuraba / Newton
Sakuraba / Renzo Gracie
Emelianenko / Randleman
GSP / BJ Penn, both fights
GSP / Parisyan
Parisyan / Mayhem Miller
Any time Cro Cop headkicks a dude for the win haha.

December 5th, 2009, 04:28 AM
Haha, you should check out Karo vs Diego Sanchez or Karo vs Nick Diaz, both top fights. I'm a big fan of Cro Cop also, Andrei Arlovski, Alistair Overeem, Fedor and Vitor Belfort.
I'd recommend going on the site I linked you to and look up the UFC primetime shows, there's 3 of them which feature documentry style training/lifestyle clips of GSP/BJ before their second fight. It's great to watch, it's like the 24/7's they do in boxing.

However, I adore dancing. I could dance forever.
I also like trampolining, but I don't do it that often. I like swimming as well; but ever since I started bleaching my hair and whatnot, I had to refrain from swimming due to the chemicals in the pool. I don't think my hair can cope with any more torture. :P
