as we're all aware, sexual storytelling is not allowed on VT for obvious reasons. I think this is cool and it should stay that way, but what about those sexual "survey" threads? if you ask me, surveys are essentially just storytelling in list form, and honestly some of the questions and answers posted on there are so explicit that I'm actually surprised Chris Hansen hasn't shown up yet. I'm talking shit like, 13-year-olds bragging about having oral sex for the first time at 11. while the actual act of sex between two minors isn't illegal in most places, you're still treading dangerous waters when it comes to minors and sex, especially on the internet.

of course, the mere fact that something is sexually explicit isn't necessarily a problem, and young kids sometimes have legitimate concerns relating to sexuality and need answers, which is fine. however, I don't see any kind of legitimate, redemptive purpose behind a thread asking minors for exhaustive details on their masturbation habits and/or sex lives. to put it bluntly, I think surveys are effectively pedo-magnets that draw pedophiles here through Google searches.

tl;dr - I think banning sexual surveys is a good idea. Mike is cool, I don't want him to have a seat over there. :(

I totally agree. I have felt this way since I joined VT. It is really unnecessary IMHO.

As much as I think that amount of surveys are redundant, I'm not too keen on the idea of drastically changing P101 - it's the subforum that attracts most of the visitors and, as a consequence, new users to VT. It's the same magnet that keeps the forums with a continuous flux of users.

I see the concern, but I wonder how dangerous the surveys actually are.

I wouldn't call this a drastic change. you've already got a rule against storytelling on the books, and as I noted surveys are virtually the same thing except in list form so just think of this as more of a revision of that one rule.

as for dangerous, I doubt it. more like disconcerting. I realize it draws the most traffic but when you consider that it's the sexuality forum and what type of visitors that topic would attract, I'd say it warrants some concern at least.

I understand what you're trying to say, OP, and I would agree with it, some surveys are actually storytelling in list form, not to mention a lot of questions are repeated over and over again. The problem is, how do you think we should word it, like, what exact rule are you proposing? If we make something like "Explicit content, storytelling and puberty-related surveys are not allowed.", I think Puberty For All would lose a lot of traffic. Sometimes the real issue is that it's quite difficult to transform an idea into a proper rule that can be applied. About 13-year-old boys bragging about their sexual activity, we really can't do anything to prove otherwise.

I'm actually surprised Chris Hansen hasn't shown up yet.
LOL :D

At first I thought you where bing prudish, but actually your argument makes total sense. They are completely redundant and have no real point apart from letting 13 year olds brag and bullshit.

I agree with PhuckPhace, get rid of them,

I'm not saying yes, I'm not saying no. I'm staying nothing like that. But what I will say is that the staff has acknowledged this thread, and we are discussing it. I'm not saying we're going to ban surveys, but we are discussing this thread. I will agree that to an extent, you pose a legitimate argument though.

Yeah I've always found it ironic when a mod has to lock a thread because it will turn into storytelling, and then have seen basically the same thing being told in survey form and the thread is like 50 posts long.

Alright, let me put my two cents here. First of all, I think there's a difference between surveys and storytelling: surveys are general details concerning everybody in the same way, it has nothing to do with personal details considering a specific situation.
Now, I think the whole point of those surveys is for teens to be able to compare themselves to others and see how different or similar they are: teens (especially boys) apparently like to compare each others in real life and so I don't see why they couldn't online.

I must honestly admit I did post a survey once to compare my self to see if I was weird because we're I'm from I don't have friends and even if I did I don't think they would be that open as most of my school thinks homosexuality is just a type of insult but has anyone else noticed the threads asking "I'm 8 inches and 6 girth is that small?" I've seen about 6 if them and I'm pretty sure all of them were just attempts to try and impress people they will most likely never meet but those are just spam when I think there is a sticky for all penis size questions so I'm just suggesting that is thought about as well

I think that surveys about where you are in growth compared to other guys your age/age range are fine, but I do agree with the OP that surveys can easily be storytelling threads in short form. I don't think that surveys asking what your favorite sex position is, or surveys asking questions like these (which I just copied and pasted from a survey are sex-ed or puberty related:
Are you a virgin:

Was it with a guy or girl:

What did you do (anal sex, bj, hj, jerk off):

Did you enjoy it:

Posted in sentence form those questions read "did you lose your virginity to a guy or a girl? What did you guys do (anal sex, bj, hj, jerk off) and did you like it?" I don't think that is really puberty related, and is essentially asking for stories of your first time.

I don't think that all surveys should be banned, but they definitely should be defined in the rules more clearly, and more closely moderated. The staff is currently discussing the matter.
