Hi everyone! I'm 15 years old and started my first period at the start of September which lasted for five days. Bleeding was very light. On Monday I started my second period so yes it was a long gap between the two. This one is awful! Very heavy bleeding and I'm having to change my pad mostly every hour because there's too much blood. I'm meant to be going to a wedding tomorrow and my dress is pastel pink so I'm worried I'm going to stain the dress and everyone will see it. What should I do?!

Is this sort of period normal and when should it stop bleeding like this?!

Try to not drink or eat too many chilled drinks it may cause heavy bleeding

Hiya,

When you start your period it's likely to be irregular and the flow might change month to month. Heavy periods can be considered normal, but if you're especially worried about it/it's really painful/goes on a long time could you go and see a gp?

With regards to being scared to go through your dress, I'm probably a little late now - but for future reference, you should check out DiaryDoll. They're waterproof pants (though I swear you'd never know, they just look like normal ones). I use them and haven't gone through yet, just makes me feel better about wearing light clothes :)

Hope the dress wearing is going/went well!!!

Thank you! Yes the dress was fine. I just made sure I had lots of pads on me!! :)

I'm now still on my period. Oh dear! It's week two now. But a lot less blood.

Irregular flow is totally natural when you first start your period.
If it continues to be heavy, and if you feel ready to try things that require insertion, I suggest using a menstrual cup. They hold a lot of blood and don't have all the risks of disposable menstrual products. Also, your period may begin to lighten up after switching to a reusable menstrual product.
