View Full Version : Annoying boss....

So today I stopped in the Jamba Juice (smoothie chain in the US) that I work at during lunch since my friends and I were getting food in the same complex. I figured while I was there I would check my work schedule to see when I work next week. While back there I was approached by one of the managers (not the lead one though), who explained that I got a write off/infraction for missing work on Tuesday without appropriately informing the team. But I feel that I was wrongly given the infraction due to a lack of communication between my boss and I. Here's what happened Tuesday:

I woke up already knowing that there was no way I was going to be able to go to school because I felt like utter shit. I had my dad excuse me from school, but I held off on calling out sick for work in case I felt better. Long story short, I didn't feel better.

At around 2:30 PM (my shift was to start at 5), I tried calling the store's back office phone, but got no answer. I was a bit concerned at that point because I really didn't think I should go to work, but I know for a fact that not showing up for work without even letting my boss know would be a surefire way to kiss my job goodbye. Since I have her mobile number, I tried texting her the situation so that she would at least be aware. I never got a text back, so at around 3:30 I tried calling the store again.

This time, I did get through to the main manager (my boss), and I explained to her that I tried contacting texting her earlier to let her know that I probably shouldn't come in today. I forgot to mention that I tried calling the store before, but she didn't give me a chance to explain that. She said that was ok, but then lectured me on how I needed to call the store and not text her about that. Again, she didn't give me a chance to explain why I texted her instead of just calling again. I was a bit annoyed, but didn't think much of it after the fact.

tl;dr: I walked in to work today and got an infraction, and I feel that if I better explained the situation to her, that I would not have gotten in trouble. How do I go around dealing with this? Do I just sit quiet (there's no consequences to having an infraction other than it's on my record for 90 days), or do I try to explain to my boss my side of the story when I see her next?

try explaining again. some bosses are just plain power hungry and they would expect you to come to work on your death bed. some are just going to be unreasonable no matter what. so try again. if it doesn't fix anything, try your best to not get into trouble until it goes off your record.

or if you are sick of working there, dramatically tell them you don't need this job and you quit, so everyone there can hear you (though that wont get you any good references I am guessing haha)

I'd try explaining the situation again, myself. I feel like the worst thing that could happen is your boss still refuses to listen to you, and the infraction still remains on your record.

I feel like firing/punishing you over trying to clear your name is a pretty douchey thing to do, and Jamba Juice being such a big chain, you could probably go over your boss's head in the...Extremely weird event that it would happen.

In all fairness, my boss isn't a power hungry witch. She is just sometimes a bit aloof to what's going on with her workers and what's going on in the store, and i'm not alone with that opinion. Last friday the afternoon shift was fucked because she started tinkering with the schedule and there were only 2 people working when there were like 12 guests waiting on orders. Never realized that there was an issue till the manager-in-charge called her about it or something.

I guess I'll try explaining it to her again next time I see her
