I posted this here, because while health related, I did get it from sports and I am not really looking for advice.

I got a concussion playing football last night. Big behemoth of a defensive tackle gave me a nasty hit. I am still whoozy this morning naturally. sadly the doctor is not sure if I should play anymore (of the 3 games) we have this year, esp after my concussion last year. I understand it, but at the same time I am super bummed. I love playing football. my health is more important I know, but bummer.

anyone else got a concussion from playing sports?

I've gotten a concussion (and knocked myself completely out) by going for a header in a soccer game when I was 11. I dove and smacked my head right on a goalpost.

I remember waking up in the emergency room. I may have been conscious before that, but I don't remember.

That sucks bro. Your health is more important, two concussions is not good for your brain.

Just take it easy, hope you feel better, I know the side affects can suck.

I have never gotten a concussion before, had my bell rung a few times though.

I was not in the hospital when I woke up (though I ended up going) but I did black out for a few moments. I was able to walk off the field with help, but I only knew that after I was being treated on the sideline

thanks man. yea I know my health is more important (esp when I am not planning to play in college or pros, but even then health is still more important). I am feeling a little dizzy and nauseous still(head is pounding). I am out for at least next weeks game with limited practice (the last time it happened I was allowed to get on the bike and do some light weights). so well see what happens. I know my mom doesn't want me to play the rest of the season (got 3 games left), which I can understand her concern

I've had 2 concussions in the past year from hockey. One was from being pushed into the boards, the second from a fight (I'll give the guy credit it was a good punch :P ). I just accept it, and all other injuries as part of the risk of playing sports, especially contact ones. Shit happens, hope you get better soon. :)

thanks. although the doctors had me end my season (it was 3 games) I am doing pretty well now.

on a completely different note, I saw you are a Detroit Tigers fan on another post. Go Tigers!

I've had two, they weren't from "playing" sports but they were sports related. First one was on my dirt bike when I was 13, I ended up going to the ER and had a fractures skull. My doctor didn't let me do anything for about 4 months :(
Second one was on my bike again when I was 15, it was a much lighter crash but still enough to mess me up a little.

Good thing we don't have any reproductions from them!

Maybe that's an indication you change sports.

I still get headaches, but it doesn't seem to be any serious repercussions from it, so I am very thankful. They get easier to get though once you got the first. but when you do what you love, it is going to happen sometimes.

well you can get them playing any sport, just football it is more common. I only have one more year though, I am not planning on playing in college or anything

Dude...have your parents or coach take you and have it checked. I've had a few over the years and I may have sat out a week or 2 but its way better than what could happen in the long term. The schools insurance should cover all the expenses so use it.

Im surprisingly good at avoiding serious injuries outside work. Running dirt bikes up trees, rolling four wheelers down hills, sending a pickup airborne once, yea, it happens. But i always walk away :P

I got checked out that night man. they decided to end the season for me after that. It was a major bummer , but I totally understand it is for health reasons, esp in the long term. Thanks for being so concerned about me man :)

No worries bud. Just have to keep notice of any side effects such as any blurred vision, even for just a second. Headaches that come and go, and if you notice your jaw is sore from grinding your teeth is also a sign of irregularities. Concussions can take weeks or months to generate any symptoms. I still see a doctor about once a month just for a quick checkup. Just offering my experiences I've encountered. Take care.

Take it easy and see the doctor. The head aches should become less but I be worried about your vision. You think you got a broken jaw?

Well I am not really having any vision problems. I was dizzy and stuff the first several days. I went to the hospital that night I got concussed. I don't have a broken jaw. I will try to work in a quick check-up. I got a concussion before though last year and I would have the occasional headache afterwards, but I did not have any serious damage (though I know it is not something to play around with)
