Simple question here really, why do people think the ouija board REALLY works?

Discuss.

I don't believe in anything supernatural.

I don't believe in anything supernatural.

Some things are creepily coincidental, but the ouija board? nah! not a chance in hell.

My Mum was visited by a phsycic, who claimed she would buy property in the near future and that was 5 years ago, still waiting!

I do not know why some people believe in ouija boards or indeed anything else.

but takes all sorts -

I feel like ouija boards only work when there's an evil spirit in the house, other than that, I don't think it would.

I don't believe spirits exist, until I see concrete evidence, nothing will make me believe it.

A single person's high expectations and eagerness to either see what they want to see or modify what actualy happened in their memory, is strong enough.
Now imaging taking that and multiplying it by the amount of people around the board, and the lightness of what they're moving.
That's the real magic; something is guaranteed to happen and someone is guaranteed to blame it on the supernatural.
It's beautiful human nature.

Well of course I don't, it's obviously total bullshit.

To be honest....I don't know. I mean, its a very unique item on its own, but with what it supposedly can do....its just...different. Right now I have no idea. But I do believe in some paranoid like incidents involving stuff like that. There's many things us humans do not understand, so we can only assume it does or does not work.

I don't believe in it, but I don't fuck with it either, just in case.

I'm on the fence about Ouija boards. I don't use them because I know I'd be scared to death, but I don't necessarily believe that, if you do get in contact with a spirit through a Ouija board, that it's inherently evil like some people believe.

why do people believe in psychics or things like that?
they want it to be true

Well if you believe in God then you have to believe in the Devil. And if you believe in other spirits then you'd have to believe in any spirt that can control the board right ?

People believe ouija boards work for the same reason they believe in anything supernatural. I think supernatural stuff it gives people a thrill. As far as the planchet moving, either someone is intentionally moving it or subconsciously moving it. I bet that's what it actually does, tunes into the subconscious. Would be interesting to look into from a psychological point of view.

I never used one myself, but I know people who are scared of them and won't use it. I just take it as fortune cookies or ghosts and stuff like that. If you believe it and in your mind you feel it's real, then to you it might be. Not saying that is or isn't, but to someone who doesn't believe it will be hard for them to connect with it. So I have a neutral opinion on this.

People just have to believe in something. "Studies" are too complicated for them, so they rely on the story told by their neighbor that heard a story about a guy in his town that heard a story.

I don't believe in it, but using one would probably still scare me, just because of the feeling that something bad is 'supposed' to happen.

Aha I didn't look it up, but I had a feeling that had been explored.

Well presumably it is. We'd have to know that there are no spirits to say this much.
