I just watched it because my boss said it was a must see movie. He was right. It does live up to its "R" rating though so beware if gore and some seriously fucked up situations get to you.

The box contains the head of tracy Mills.

If you slow down the letterbox movie version of "Seven" you'll see a woman's head inside the box. Since John Doe (Kevin Spacey) is trying to bring about Wrath (Murder) he has committed it but will live on knowing instead of being put out of his misery. So he kills Gwenyth Paltrow and has Brad Pitt turn his gun on him and shoot him. That's why Morgan Freeman ran up saying, "John Doe holds all the cards! Throw down your weapon! Don't do it!" - and all that other stuff.

John Doe: "I visited your home this morning after you'd left. I tried to play husband. I tried to taste the life of a simple man. It didn't work out, so I took a souvenir... her pretty head. "

Hopefully all this helps. If you have this movie on DVD slow it down with freeze-frame, then use the ZOOM to enlarge and see inside the box.

That part made me question why the helicopter support team didn't arrest Brad Pitt's character for executing the suspect.
