Hi guys, I'm having throat surgery on my thyroglossal cyst tomorrow, and I am really scared. I hate hospitals as it is, never mind when they are cutting my throat open... will I be alright? Does anyone know what I should expect with it etc?

Thanks guys

My aunt had that done, apparantly she was back on her feet the next day, for her, all they did was slice the skin open and remove it, after that it was just a case of closing the wound and that was it, once she had slept off the sedative and changed the bandage she was back to work. Dont worry, the UK has one of the worlds best healthcare systems, you're in good hands.

I'm not sure, but my friend just got her tonsils removed on Monday and she's off school for 2 weeks. I'm not trying to scare you, but everything will be fine. You may/may not feel tired afterwards. Just don't freak out about it. It's a simple operation.

Thyroglossal cyst surgery is just a procedure for draining the cyst, removing any fluid producing tissue found in it, suturing it closed and then waiting for the operation wound to heal. It's not as big a procedure as a tonsillectomy or removal of the tonsils, you may not spend a lot of time hospitalized for it. Also, it's done under anaesthesia so there is no need to worry.

let me first start off saying You'll be fine ! I've had 2 throat surgeries and im due for a 3d soon. I'm not exactly sure what for you to expect because everyone is different. Your throat maybe sore for a while but you'll be okay :)

Can't really give much advice on what to expect, but I'm sure you'll be fine. :)
