So the first article I want to bring up is this. We all learned that same sex marriage is now legal to more than half of the country's population. This is wonderful! However the fight still isn't over. In fact those who are supporting LGBT have just begun! The first major battle now is about to begin when President Obama nominated an ACLU lawyer to lead the fight for civil rights. This is wonderful because ACLU is known for their support of equality and civil rights. I feel that Vanita Gupta will get a lot accomplished.

Next, I have also heard that the mayor of Houston, Annise Parker, an open lesbian, has issued an ultimatum upon the city, more specifically on the religious institutions. Turn over all sermons regarding homosexuality or face criminal consequences. It's nice that someone in power finally puts their foot down and fight religious ignorance and bigoty. I support her because hate speech is not free speech by any means, and religious sermons on homosexuality is nothing but hate speech. So Mayor Parker, you have my full support!
When I find an article from a News Outlet I can trust in this issue, I will post it. So far all I find is hate from the right wing babies whining about their rights being taken away. Please, let's not be subjected to such immatury.

For once, I don't sense a large amount scathing and irrelevant mockery of those you don't agree with. Just a little. Good job.

As for the issues themselves, it's nice to see that progress is being made.

What's free speech then?

Otherwise, yay!, etc.

So you want your rights and bitch and moan about those but you support taking away people's freedom of religion and freedom of speech. Way to go!

That's why I avoid the gay rights movement. Both sides at hypocrites.

Being an ignorant bigot and using religion to do so isn't a right, it's being a pathetic human full of hate.

What? That can't be right. It's a blatant violation of the 1st amendment. No way that's actually happening.

And even if somebody did try to make preaching against homosexuality illegal, there's no fucking way I'd support it.

You have absolutely NO RIGHT to initiate force against someone because you disagree with what they believe or preach about in their own churches. That's not equality or progess, it's oppression.

This sounds like something some crazy right wing lunatic would say we would do, not something we would actually do.

----------

Okay I did some research, and Houston is not making bigoted sermons illegal.

What happened is a supeona was issued against a small group of churches because they're suspected of engaging in political organization, which would void their tax exempt status. Part of the political organizing they're suspecting of includes opposing a recent lgbt nondiscrimination ordinance. This isn't illegal, but they can't do it and be tax exempt.

That's all that's happening.

Merged. ~Typhlosion

Preaching your religion in a church or any public forum is a right. Your a person who wants special treatment and everybody to conform to what you want. People who want oppression in the name of equality are those who give the equality movement a bad image.

Politics are full of hypocrisy, lies, unkept promises, and distraction techniques. Why we still try to make sense of something so nonsensical is a mystery to me,

I'm happy that she is proud of her sexuality and being lgbt myself I understand the struggle that religion plays in that regard. But people should have their rights to believe what they want as long as they keep it civil. I don't want to force people to like me. I just want to hope later they come to accept it.

I'm sorry, but saying that homosexuals are sinners and are going to burn in hell is hate speech. Saying that I am not liable to be treated equal is hate speech. Saying that their god hates me and says I can't get married because I'm a second class citizen is hate speech. Anything religious institutions say about homosexuality is hate speech.

Someone mistook or threw something out of proportion without doing proper research? Oh wow, never seen that before :P

But seriously it is good to see progress when it comes to lgbt rights in a superpower nation. I hope that this attitude starts to creep into more Eastern countries.

I say we all put duct tape over our mouths so no one ever gets fucking offended. Better yet, why doesn't everyone just grab a pair of scissors and cut their tongue out. You can't have hate speech without speech.

I side with AgentHomo on the issue. Let's weigh the different hate speeches.

LGBT Hate Speech causes ignorance in the community, and has the gullible sheep of the world going up in arms over something that most people know nothing about. If they knew about it they would know it wasn't a fucking choice. You know what else LGBT Hate Speech causes. LGBT Teen Suicide rates. In a world where teens like ME feel so hated by these morons, they feel that they'll never be accepted for who they are and treated like human beings. [TRIGGER WARNING] So they hang themselves, shoot themselves. And in my case, try to jump off of a roof with a plastic bag over my head, slit my wrists, and try to strangle myself with a chain.

Now, what issues to Republican/Christian hate speech cause. None. The truth is, Republicans are stupid (as well as Democrats, Liberals, Conservatives, Independents...EVERYONE IS FUCKING STUPID!!!) and the Christian faith is generally ignorant for basing their beliefs off of a book written by men over 2000 years ago when the world was a brutal, war scarred piss-pot, like it's gotten any fucking better. Are there Republicans/Christians who aren't so ignorant and stupid? Yes! Are they in Texas? Not really.

I was simply pointing out that it's hypocritical of him to want to illegalize hate speech against gays while supporting hate speech against Christians.

Personally, I don't think anyone has a right to violently force censorship upon somebody except in cases of self defense where censorship is necessary to prevent actual harm from occuring. And I find the concept of making "hate speech" illegal disgusting.

Guess what buddy? Life is shit. People are asshole. If people wanna preach equality but scream hate speech they're not gonna get what they want. I sure as hell am not gonna vote or agree with this shit until I see that improvement. It's hypocrisy. That's whats happening.

if I catch shit cause I beleive there is a god then I sure as hell am not gonna bend over and be nice. Want respect? Give it.

Can't argue with that.
If people wanna preach equality but scream hate speech they're not gonna get what they want.
Actually, I believe the contrary is happening, considering over 50% of the country now has legal same sex marriage. Also, what are we supposed to say. "Being gay is not a choice, but all the Christians who preach hatred against us are still intelligent people"? That's ridiculous.

I sure as hell am not gonna vote or agree with this shit until I see that improvement. It's hypocrisy. That's whats happening.
Go ahead and be a bigot, there's nothing I can do to change your mind, even if you are fighting a losing battle.
In addition, politics is full of hypocrisy, but people are quick to call the other side on it when it doesn't work in their favor.

if I catch shit cause I beleive there is a god then I sure as hell am not gonna bend over and be nice.
How much shit to you catch for being an accepted part of the majority, compared to those of us who are a rejected and hated minority.

Want respect? Give it.
You know that never works. People aren't just going to bend over and be nice. even if you're nice to them. Did England end its tyranny over the US because the colonists said: "Please leave us alone"? Fuck no.
