At least for me, it just has to do with the cleanliness of everything. When I think of hair I think of things like dandruff and such, although that isn't even an issue down there (at least not that I've heard). Plus it looks better and you don't get those annoying hairs in your mouth ;)

Another reason is probably the overall stigma around girls having body hair. It's not considered a womanly thing. Although I'm not gonna pick someone over if there pubes are shaved.

I get trimming, but reducing to zero seems to be a hassle, and it looks like something's missing. Hairs aren't gross at all (by the contrary) but I guess they do get a bit in the way while caressing?
