A classmate of mine, Alex was taken to the hospital last week with a temperature of 105 F. I hadn't heard anything up until about 5 minutes ago when a friend of mine told me that his teacher announced that the classmate had Cancer. I don't really know him and really haven't ever had a lengthy conversation with him, but this still really hit me.

Someone in my college died last year of some form of lung cancer, they tired a transplant but he died on the table. I sort of semi knew him, we had lunch at the same table once or twice, has a few conversations every now and then, but I didn't really know him, didn't hit me very hard but when I heard it made me realise anyone can die at any time. No one even knew he had cancer untill 3 months before he died, they caught it FAR too late, apparantly the operatin was a lat ditch attempt.
(This is what I have heard being thrown around, the details may be different, but he's definately dead, RIP David.)

Memento mori at its finest. Poor, poor kid :( Hope he pulls through
Someone else in my school had cancer and had to amputate their leg because of it and go through kemo and lots of other stuff. It's a harsh illness.

That's really rough. :( It's really sad to hear when anyone has cancer. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

I personaly know someone who died of cancer.
However cancer is still often curable! It depends on the type and the effectiveness of the chemo.
In any case, chemo is tough and you should root for them when they go through it.

I know a lot of people who have passed from, and beaten cancer. It is a terrible illness.
I hope your acquaintance makes it through.

Understandable but I guess you will know more soon as there are many forms of cancer - of course he and family may not want a whole heap of people tp know
yet until they themselves have all the info.

That must be terrible news. A classmate of mine in primary/elementary school had leukemia but thankfully they caught it fairly early and she made a recovery in good time but she was still off school for nearly a year and in hospitals constantly. I hope your classmate makes a good recovery.

I know people who have died from cancer and who have survived and now have perfectly normal lives. I guess it all depends on the time it is diagnosed, the sooner you start the treatments, the better. Hopefully, your classmate will make it through, Even though you didn't know him very well, your reaction is normal, even if it happens to someone who's not very close to us, it's still someone we see almost every day, so it affects us nevertheless.

Yeah, my mum passed on from cancer this year. It's really not fun at all, and it can be a bit upsetting, knowing how easy it is to get it. In fact, we have cancerous cells in our body almost all the time, but our body always eradicates them before they can become bad.
But it's good now that in modern day time, especially with breast cancer, that there are many preventatives to stop cancer or slow it down. Modern day science is doing it's job.
