On a more serious note, this is completely ridiculous. Half naked ladies on beer billboards are okay but not a completely non pornographic website billboard?

I think they took it down because it gives off a bad message to the world about Time's Square. The porn industry is a pretty nasty. There are bad things involved and is not what the City of New York wants to represent them. Families take vacations there. Most people don't want a Porn ad in the background of their photo.

I think it's what the billboard is for, a pornographic website. Even if it's the most tasteful of billboards, there's nasty stuff on that website and the porn industry can be very disgusting and abusive.

Why take it down? Almost everyone watches porn, almost everyone masturbates, why pretend it's a thing of guilt, and pretend it's this huge detrimental secret.

it's considered inappropriate in our society.

I guess it was the context and how it's so direct about what they are advertising. Tourists and children are exposed to that in a hidden message kind of way. Right on Times Square too. Like if it were a bar or nightclub or something like that, I don't see why the city wouldn't allow an advertisement like that.
But I can see the double standard. There are far worse adverts, I know from living in LA there are lots of inappropriate billboards in malls and at tourist areas. You just can't ever win sometimes.

But why? It doesn't make sense that something so commonplace be thought of as taboo. It would be one thing if the billboard featured nudity, but all it had was a pair of hands, a clever joke and a site name.

To be honest, I really would want that in my family picture, I honestly would.
In my opinion this is another example of the prudishness of society, like GM said, half naked women shoved in your face every 3.24 atto seconds is perfectly fine, but a picture that contains only two hands is taken down? What the fuck? Sure, the site its promoting isn't exactly child friendly, but nether is a half naked woman trying to sell me beer....
What I want to see is a BIG poster in times square of homosexual anal fisting with interracial, unmarried, young men, with multiple partners, and THEN, I want to see it get refused to be taken down, and THEN, I want PornHub to refuse to make a public apology.
That way I can sit back and watch the republican party slowly melt down and explode when they don't get what they want whilst having to look at that.
But that's just me.

Publicity success - more press coverage for the billboard take down than the billboard would ever generate - go figure.

I've had some time to think about it and I've decided you're right.

Of course. America isn't ready for that kind of advert LOL.

Honestly, one thing is reducing sexual barriers, another is a public banner advertising pornography. Think of the children. Pornography, as distorted as it is, is something I would not want my youth to be curious about.

Still, it should not be advertised like that in public. got kids and other people who don't want to be subjected to it. I get where you are coming from. I know other countries do not always have a big hang up about it.
