One more year of high school and it's crazy. I have all these huge goals and my teacher goes off and tells me your not going to be able to do what you want to do with your life. You have to get a job to be a productive member of society. I told him off saying no Steve Jobs wasn't an exception, everyone's the exception and they just can't see their potential. You aren't being taught in high school everything you can be and with Common Core it only gets worse. At least I'm 18 right now and actually get viewed as a human being to society. Here's what I say. if your great at what you do your possibilities are endless. As long as you have the skill. Work is work and people aren't going to turn you down if you show passion. He just kept disagreeing with me telling me I bet your not going to do what you want to do. Screw him!

Follow your dreams and prove everyone wrong.

uhm yeah.
Follow your dreams as long as they are realistic. Dreams can sometimes really be kind of impossible without proper advantages, but on the other hand teachers can really be full of s*t and since there's not much context here it could be either one.

Yeah that might be right in any inspirational anime or cartoon show but it hardly applies to real life with the conditions that prevail these days. Though high school doesn't teach you everything, most people don't really go far without such basic education and being realistic, it takes much more than a little luck and determination and skill to actually get to the top as many important people have done.

Use that as motivation to make yourself stronger. Be your best and do all you can to succeed. You might have to make some changes and sacrifices in the beginning. In addition to taking constructive criticism from others. However in the end, if everything was done right, you should be able to follow your goals and make your dreams reality.

I wish you the best of luck. :)

Three Words:
PROVE. HIM. WRONG.

Not by continuing the argument, but by going out and accomplishing your goals. Life is full of detractors, those who'll tell you that you can't. But the best rebuttal is showing them that they're wrong.

What exactly are your goals? Because I'm unsure whether I should agree with you or the teacher.

He's just basically saying that you have to work with system. I say screw the system you create your own system in your own world. He tells me Steve Jobs or Howard Stern was the exception and your not the exception. We weren't talking about any specific goals. I'm not looking to settle down, get an average job that pays the bills, raise a family with two cats and a yard. Maybe later in my life but I'm willing to be homeless for however long it takes for it to work out. The problem is I have many interests that I could peruse. Not sure which one will work out but thats part of the risk I'm willing to take. Love Photography could start my own photography buisness, love music if a band ever goes anywhere, would love to become a music producer/engineer. Love Software Development if my apps take off, have some great invention ideas for cameras, very passionate about politics but I figure later in my life if I could become a senator or congressmen actually get some truth out of D.C. I'm 18 and at the beginning of a journey and I'd like to tell the teacher who said that to bug off. Basically he's saying you won't be able to work for yourself, you have to get a degree to have a 9-5 office job. I could never do that!

Ignore your teacher, please. Just be who you wanna be in your life: if you would like to be a photograph , start taking photos now , talk with somebody who knows about starting up a photograph studio ... I dont know xD

Your teacher shouldn't be saying that, only you can determine your future.

Just be true to yourself and don't let others bring you down.

your teaching shouldn't be saying that. some dream are more realistic than others. although I play football for my high school, because of my size, I really would not be able to play football in the NFL (or a lot of colleges). so for me to say I would want to be the greatest RB in the NFL, that would not be realistic (it is not my dream by the way, but you get the picture).

that being said, follow your dreams. if it means that much to you then go for it.
