So a couple days ago at work, a rock the size of two big cinder blocks fell 4 feet and crushed my pinky finger between another rock. I actually saw it happen before i felt it, but i saw blood all over my arm, hand, and pants and was like WTF? Then i felt like someone decided to rip my arm off at the elbow. Since its been two days now, i figured out that when it got squished, the fingernail just popped off and started pouring out blood there. I just wrapped a rag around it and finished the job, so it got pretty dirty too. The fingernail grew back once and got really dark purple underneath, and now its lifting up like its trying to pop off. Which wouldnt really have me concerned, except it already did pop off essentially. Im pretty sure the knuckle is broken, but that shoulnt have anything to do with the nail unless it pinched a nerve or vein in there right? Its been continously bleeding just enough that i have to keep wiping it off very few minuites to keep it clean to look at.
P.S. It hurts like a bitch.

I would suggest going to the ER. You could have broken more than just your knuckle.

That's called a blood blister. It's blood/bruising under the finger nail. Since it's under pressure, underneath the nail, it makes sense that it wants to come off again. Unfortunately it probably means that you're going to loose the nail again, although it will probably start getting better after that. Blood blisters can take a long time to heal. Read up on them a little bit, they're kind of gross so I'm not going to post any pictures here. I wouldn't be too concerned over it, but it may be worth talking to your parents and/or doctor about.
However, if you think you have a broken knuckle, then you should go to the ER now. If you let your hand set itself, and it doesn't heal properly, it's never going to be the same. Don't be the tough guy who doesn't go to the ER for a broken hand, you'll regret it for the rest of your life. You may not regret it next month, or the one after that, but trust me, it will open a giant can of worms down the line, and is worth getting checked out by a doctor.

Like ive said, ive had broken bones before, and im not about to go in just for that. And it defonitly isnt a blood blister cuz ive had them before too and its just completly different. Its not really under any pressure. My aunt who used to be an army medic said it thinks the new one is bad, so its trying to grow another underneath. She cant really explain anything other than it lifting up though.

I don't think it's any reason for emergency, but it's something I would get checked out.

Then you should go see a doctor... I mean it's your body and life, do what you want, but you're being foolish by not seeing a doctor. We are not medical professionals, we can't diagnose you, and you shouldn't rely on us for that. You could have a more serious health concern and are ignoring it, but asking for help and refusing advice you're being given. Not really sure what you're looking for...

I have the same question. You come here and ask for advice, then you tell everyone you're not going to see a doctor. Well, why ask for advice then if you're not going to follow it?
