Why do Americans wear jockstraps. What is the purpose?

I guess to support thier grapes while running, jumping and stuff. Personally, I think it would be better to wear a cup, in case someone is a sore loser and decides to kick you in the nuts.

"A jockstrap is an undergarment worn by men/boys to support their penis and testicles from flopping around during the rigors of whatever sport they may be involved in.
The ones with the protective cups are generally used for sports which involve a projectile such as a ball or a puck, or ones that include intense physical contact, such as American football for example."

I had to look up what they were, and now I have to delete my internet history...
I really don't know why anyone'd want to wear them.

Ummm, yeah.... That is why people should wear cups, so they don't get their nuts cracked open.

There is no time in life you feel any more masculine is noticing that your junk is running along with you. Its like a moment of teamwork

It's not common anymore in sports but more in gay culture. Most athletics I know and professionals wear compression shorts.

I agree with you, it's honestly more of a sexual thing in gay culture than it is practical in sports. I think most people wear compression shorts instead of Jock Straps.

To be very honest, I haven't even heard of jockstraps before VT. They just don't exist here, AFAIK.
