Its where I cant grow hair anywhere on my body (including down there) and at first i was discouraged about it and then some friends that are girls told me that they find it to bothersome when doing certain actions and that made me feel better. Long story short its hard for me to know what stage of puberty im in.... and another thing... I joined swim for next year and im worried some jocks will make fun of me for and I wouldn't know what to say back... Can anybody help?

There isn't much you can do now. It's not bad that you dont have alot of hair. People may think that you shave your pubic area, which is very common. Also, I don't think you should be concerned because it will give you the edge during swimming because you dont have alot of hair. Dont feel bad. You are just fine the way you are.

Oh okay. Well do you take medications for this?
RRDoLLY
March 23rd, 2008, 03:14 AM
There isnt a real cure.. meds are pointless... they provide false hope!

Heres another plus: Hair is smelly. Not head hair, like hair all over. So you'll smell better and have less B.O.;)

Well after doing some online research Alopecia Totalis is only the loss of the head hair and not full body. Alopecia Universalis is the loss of all body hair. So are you sure your doctor said Totalis or Universalis. Also, youre right there is no definite cure but there are meds out there that can help your auto-immune system since this disease is auto-immune. So ask your doctor!

Yeah you will be less susseptable to BO because your body can ventilate and breathe better!

Well acutually Iv only been to the doctor a couple times when I was young... So thats what it is on my record. If you read Alopecia totalis can progress into Universalis..... And we tried when i was younger... no's go's... Also because of the "over active" immune system i have ?exzema?sp? .... its gets pretty bad sometimes when I get breakouts... Speacial crezms cam help keep the skin calm but again... No actual cure.. for me at least... damn u meds

well teens tend to make fun of things that are different to what they consider to be "normal" ... be it gays, nerds, disabilities etc...
but you have to consider that a lot of humans may treat people who arent the same as them differently, whether they mean to or not. like if someone is confronted by someone with Down Syndrome if changes you because you are basically ignorant of the condition of the other person .. people fear what they don't know or understand.

But still... words hurt... even the smallest of things lk no hair... after so long you can only take so much of the same ignorant ass comments beffore you just snap
I mean iv gotten to the point where iv almost stabed somone with 5in siccors ..... º-º

you just have to think, there are probably thousands, meybe more that have the same medical condition as you, how do you think they get along, yeah they probably get abuse, because teens dont like variations of themselves, its just like chris said, teens make fun of people that are different to you, i get a shit load of abuse just because im ginger, i just laugh it off go home n go out wiv my real friends, you have to try your best to ignore them or find a way to relieve your stress, whether its going home and hitting your pillow as hard as you can, or do what i used to do, go on an online game and make friends their while killing them on the game, it relieves stress, and that might help you,
so just try your best to ignore them and find a way to get your worries out of you

just say you shave your head and how do they know you have that desease anyway
did you tell them?
RRDoLLY
March 23rd, 2008, 01:20 PM
No but the the thing is, I shouldn't have to. I'd be perfectly content if theyd just ask if I do and not make uneccecary comments. But that rarely happens...

how did people find out about this desease
RRDoLLY

When people ask I tell them what it is and what it does... And that its not funny like some people see it!

Personally, I would flip it around. Yell something back like, "I've got potential to be a fantastic swimmer because of the fact I have no hair. I'm am built for intense speeds." Then perhaps some thrusting motions.
I'm not trying to make light of the situation, I'm being totally serious. If you said that, and made the motions, I think the jocks would laugh and be really confused.

I'm not sure how to tell your stage of puberty, but stages of puberty don't really matter. All of us grow so differently that stages can be totally inaccurate. Stages also include age groups which just don't fit for about half of us. A lot of us develop much earlier and much later than what's described we can't be classified in those stages anyway.
As for your bully problem, I understand it, even tho I'm not in your situation. I suggest trying some of these few things:
Talk to the coach and tell him that the guys are bothering you and all you want to do is enjoy the sport. If they decide to pick on you, ask the coach for help. Your coach will probably understand and maybe even have a talk with the jocks
Talk with a school counselor. Ask them if they can help you. By going to a counselor, you can let out your feelings and your mind won't be so crammed up with a whole bunch of thoughts. You may be able to get some tips from them about dealing with those guys.
Make some friends. Friends stick up for other friends and you can talk to them about things that bother you, especially about people who pick on you.
Stand up for yourself. Talk back to them.
More on that standing up for yourself: Guys pick on me because I'm kinda small, I'm not a jock like them, and I'm not that strong. The worst way to deal with these guys is to have an "arsenal" of comebacks. They just don't work. Instead, what I do is stay out of their way most of the time, but if they mess with me, I either mess with them, or I call them dumbasses. Let's face it, jocks are rude dumbasses and whatever they say doesn't really matter. Once you can get that into your mind, you can walk past them with pride.
And again let's face the fact that jocks can really easily be messed with! :D

Ehh.... i try to ignore it but its not the easiest thing to do when you have a group of them constantly taunting you about.... And Iv been to counselor before.... no help

to tell you the truth, if this was happening to me, id go around all of my closest friends and tell em that if they carry on then expect a fight, then i would personally hit them when they started again. i kno its violent but it could stop them as it shows that you are not scared of them. but id say take this advice if you feel like nothing else will work

dont worry about it, if people are slagging you about puberty then there probably just insecure about themselves. it may work if you explain to them you have a disease or if you just ignore them completely

in a way you're actually lucky with this becuase i know that most girls dont like a lot of body hair...your skin is smoother which is what many girls prefer. think of this as a good thing, you dont have to bother shaving or anything. guys in swim probably wont notice it becuase many people dont have that much body hair...change in a changing room or somethihng if that is what you're worried about

Dude, this is quite possibly a blessing in disguise! Seriously, some chicks are waaaaaaaaaay into hairless guys. This could be favorable in the long run, especially if you're on the swim team.

I bleed alot and im always itchy

Well if anyone makes fun of you for it... Then they are dumb, because they just want to think someone else is lower than them because they are insecure about themselves and they want others to think they are totally secure and not hesitant...
Also it will definitely help in swimming so you can just beat the losers that make fun of you : )

I had a friend in middle school who had what you have, or something very similar. I know this probably seems trite, but I've seen it and it sure as hell doesn't look like fun. Good for you for having a fairly upbeat attitude about the whole thing.
