So a while back I started a thread (Changing rooms (http://virtualteen.org/forums/showthread.php?t=208085)) voicing my concerns about showering nude in the locker/changing rooms after sports (Outside of school), which ended up with about 18 really helpful people giving me tips on how to conquer this issue. After about 5 months of preparation, I managed to conjure up the balls to do it for the first time with strangers and people I know. I headed over to the shower area, took my towel from around my waist, leaving me fully exposed and headed into the shower area (with 4/5 other people already in there) and had a shower. Much to my surprise, nobody made any indication that they cared I was naked in there, and I actually had a full on conversation with another guy in there who I'd never met before.

I know a lot of people have the same issue I had 3-5 months ago, where they are too afraid of showering nude due to an unexpected erection maybe, body image or just generally what people will think/say. With this, I thought I would start another thread with my top tips for conquering this fear, and also the top bits of advice from members on this forum which helped me conquer this.

1. Just go for it

I had an immense fear or this the first time I took the towel from around my waist, leaving me fully exposed in a changing room of at least 20 guys. The main thoughts going through my head were "They will all think I'm a wierdo", "Nobody will talk to a naked guy, it's awkward!", "What if I get a random erection whilst I'm in there?" and "What if my body looks ugly!".
After a minute or two of being in there, none of those issues presented themselves, they were all simply worst case scenarios that I had made up in my head. Sure, one of them might happen one day - But then again - I'm almost certain it won't have a long lasting negative effect on me.
My point is, that you will think of worst case scenarios in your head naturally - Everyone does it. However, almost 98% of the time, those scenarios will not happen. Just go for it, see what happens. If it's bad, don't do it again or find a way to combat it- If it's good, woohoo!

2. Nobody really cares about the fact that your are naked.

This is debatable, but what I found is that nobody really cares that you are showering naked. We all have the same "equipment", so why would they care to see another males penis? Sure, you might get a few comments thrown around here and there, but if they are smart enough, they won't try to bring down someone who has enough confidence and self belief to show their body in public. When/if those comments are made, either just ignore them and hope that no one else will comment, making them look ridiculous, or think of a really cocky think to reply - They will stop soon enough.

3. Erection incoming? Maths is the way to go.

The best way I dealt with the problem of unexpected erections, is as soon as I feel one coming on, think up a relatively difficult (but simply) maths equation, and try to work it out in your head. For example, I usually use sums such as 31x18=?. Sure, it's easy, you can probably work it out in a matter of seconds if you're good at maths. But the key thing is that it got your mind off of your incoming erection. I think it's probably different for everyone, so if that doesn't work, think of something really "unsexy", that usually does it too - But I found that even unsexy things made me more aware of my incoming erection and didn't do much to stop it.

4. You're there to get in, and get out - Not to show your body.

At the end of the day, you're in there to get in the changing rooms, strip, shower, dry, get changed and get out. All of you are. The simple fact that you are showering nude in comparison to showering with underwear on is not a huge detail. Just get in, do what you need to do, and get out.

5. There are so many benefits of showering naked

An article which really helped me was written by a guy called Kozo, now a 49 year old, addressing his young-self (12 year old Kozo) and explaining the massive benefits of showering naked at a youthful age. I actually agree with this guy completely after doing it myself now, and I strongly suggest you read this article.

So, that's the advice I have for you. I realise a lot of people may see this post as ridiculous, as showering in the locker rooms naked is an everyday thing to a lot of Americans these days I believe (I stand to be corrected..), but for us English people, it really is something which takes a lot of courage to do, as most people shower in their boxers at the least.

Hope I helped. If you have anything you think if worth adding to this thread, feel free to post down below and I'll add it. Also, feedback on this advice would be really appreciated! :)

(Congrats for getting to the end too, just realised how long this is. Essay time ;) )

I think it's becoming more and more accepted in the UK to shower naked. When I first started high school it wasn't really done, but when I joined the football team in year 8 it was the done thing. Now during PE I shower naked all the time. At first I got a few looks, but as I'm quite a confident person and happy with my body and it's proportions, it didn't bother me. Now in year 10 there are a few more of us from the football team in my PE class and I've noticed that because we shower naked the other non football lads in the class have gained confidence and now do the same.

That's really interesting to hear your experience of that actually, as at my school we don't even shower after rugby/football (maybe the proper teams do at real matches, I'm not good enough for them :p ), and even after I finish out of school sports, most people just shower in their wetsuits or their underwear!

If you don't mind me asking, is the school you go to a state school or a private?

this is some very good advice. I shower naked after sports and stuff and I don't think twice about it. I never did, but I can understand why people get so nervous going in. there may sometimes be one or two jerks, but for the most part, people don't really care what you are doing, they are there to get themselves cleaned and get dressed, which is what you should be doing anyways.

very good advice :)

We don't need to take showers after a soccer game that's not common in USA at least in FL and if someone does, never naked just in boxers or undies.

80% of people my age at my football club, shower naked. Which makes it feel a lot more comfortable, as it;s a regular thing. So when i chose to shower, i go naked.

Yeah thats what ive always found, no one bothers or if they do, they're covered anyway! Its just something thats never been done in either of the schools ive gone too. I spent 10 years in private school and the young kids had to shower naked after sport but from around the age of 10 everybody stopped. Now I got to a state school and its exactly the same situation, no one bothers showering. Its weird haha :P

At my school after PE we never showered anyway, if we did the showers were separate cubicals and the locks had been knocked off of the doors so people would either look through the lock or over the side and laugh at you, also we never actually had time to shower after PE so we didn't.

Showers are required here. Coaches make sure that we all take showers.

Good advice. That would've helped be back in high-school but I was/still am insecure about that kind of stuff, being naked and potentially being laughed at. Even though some of my friends have seen me naked before. Anyways, it was a well put together post.
