To be honest, I k ow nothing about hair, but I do like the messy look.

In my opinion a mohawk would be nice. Short at the end and kinda the sides then it rounds up at the top.

Okay, let me give this a go. What about cutting the sides to your normal short hair length and and leave the top and front somewhat longer? If i was to give examples, that'd be similar to Broken Toy or AdamS. It looks great.
