I have a fun hypothetical scenario for you guys and I would like everyone to answer yes or no.

As most of you know, in the United states the democratic and Republican parties control almost everything. The two biggest other parties, the Libertarian and green parties, have very little power at all. But if the power were to shift and the Democratic party were to be replaced by the Green party and the Republican party were to be replaced by the Libertarian party, would the US be better off or worse off in your opinion? Why?

Personally, I would absolutely love this. My views are a mix of the green and Libertarian parties platforms and they would provide the perfect balance. The green party is a bit too statist and doesn't have enough respect for individual rights, and the Libertarian party just wants to privatize everything and replace government oppression with corporate oppression. But aside from that they both have great qualities.

And since they have more common ground than the D's and R's certain things would get done quicker. Like ending the war on drugs and maintaining the separation of church and state and ending our imperialistic foreign policy, and reducing the size of our military. This hypothetical paradigm shift would be the better thing to ever happen to America.

But it's probably not gonna happen. :(

I have to say it wouldn't make a difference. Political parties aren't really supported anymore. Everyone is forced to be Democratic because it's seen as the protagonist as far as political reform goes and the Republicans are now seen as the a antagonists. The independent, green, libertarian parties like you mentioned don't have a role as of yet. In fact many people don't even know what they stand for. They just assume usually the green party is just another name for being a Democrat. So in my opinion, it just goes with support. If enough people can rally to support those political parties that are never mentioned about in the media, then we will have to see if any difference is made.

I think you're misunderstanding me. What I was asking was if hypothetically the dens and GOP were to be replaced and the greens and libs had as much power as the dens and GOP do now, would we be better off with the different parties leading us or would we be worse off? This is just a hypothetical, not a serious consideration about the future.

In my opinion nothing would change. There is always going to be a negative to a positive. That is just how the world works. If all the higher government officials consisted of the lesser known political parties, there would still be terrorism, environmental issues, social stigmas. Etc. We would just all be vegetarians and take public transport. Yet there will still be the same problems now, just because there are no Republicans or Democrats.

Yes. Having two parties that oppose each other on a significant level would be good for America.

It's impossible but as you said; hypothetics so yea.
It would be pretty interesting.
I don't really grasp american politics though so I wouldn't be qualified to make any predictions for this.

I think it would be better if all, parties were equally represented. Including the Independents... The two party system isn't really benefiting that country right now.
