Like 99.99% of the things I post, somebody has probably made a thread about this before, but
A. I need posts
B. The issue was flying around in my head like an enraged moth.
C. I have nothing better to do.

So, What are your stance on the unisex restroom?

I believe the current male/female systen should be abolished, as it is not as efficient for many reasons, and also creates problems for those who don't necessarily identify as either male of female.

I would have no problem with it. But I think most probably would. Am curious about what others have to say about it.

A lot of places have private restrooms, sometimes called "family restrooms." I believe they're officially designed for dads to take very young daughters or moms to take very young sons, or even a parent take a son and daughter. Either way, they typically are not much more than a room with a toilet, sink/mirror and trashcan in it. If someone doesn't identify with a gender or is undergoing surgery, these "family restrooms" are probably an appropriate place. I think the law in most places states you can use whichever you identify with...now, if someone who obviously looks like a guy identifies as a girl and they go into a girl's bathroom, yeah...they may get some looks.

A place with a bunch of pubescent boys/girls in it and urinals might get a little risky...(showing off for the girls or acting like you can't get your stream started?)

I have heard stories where, if a line is long, girls pop into the guy's bathroom...they'll usually yell into the bathroom and see if it's ok... I wouldn't recommend this all the time though.

I really don't support them. Yes, I know that sounds harsh, but it simply cause too many issues, i.e; one sex seeing the other's genitalia, longer waiting lines to use the restroom, and the fact that most would feel uncomfortable with the situation.

As a side note, while I really don't approve much of those who believe in the multi-gender opinion, I don't care what they do or what they classify themselves as, as long as they don't try and shove it down my throat.

They wouldn't bother me at all, but I'm much less uptight about those sorts of things than most people. Fuck, I'm the guy who made that thread calling for the legalization of public nudity. So I can't really speak for other people.

But from a legal standpoint I don't see any reason not to have unisex restrooms.

I really don't support them. Yes, I know that sounds harsh, but it simply cause too many issues, i.e; one sex seeing the other's genitalia,
OH LAWRDY LAWRD, THAT'S JUST INDECENT! NEXT THING YA KNOW WOMEN FOLK WILL BE SHOWING THEIR KNEES UNCLOTHED AND HAVING OBSCENE RELATIONS WITH THEIR SUITORS! D:

 But seriously, I honestly don't see why this is a big deal. Americans are just way too uptight about nudity. Maybe I'm like partially autistic or was secretly born in Europe or something, but I don't understand why this is a bad thing.
longer waiting lines to use the restroom,
Or they could just make the one unisex restroom twice as big as each of the individual sex restrooms would've been. It might actually be more efficient since if there was an influx of one gender but mot much of the other there wouldn't have to be a line at one while the other is empty.

and the fact that most would feel uncomfortable with the situation.
Meh. People would get used to it. Apprehension has never been a good legal base against anything before.

As a side note, while I really don't approve much of those who believe in the multi-gender opinion, I don't care what they do or what they classify themselves as, as long as they don't try and shove it down my throat.

Yes, God forbid some Trans he-she force you to use the same restroom as girls. What if they see your wee wee and decide to rape you in a fit of uncontrollable lust? D:

Or they could just make the one unisex restroom twice as big as each of the individual sex restrooms would've been. Not an argument against, but Austin's right on this one. Many, many places just have the minimum two restrooms. If I only need one, why spend more on another?

What? I was just saying that they could make the one restroom twice as big. How would that have any effect on the efficiency?

The problem is, they (smaller establishments) won't construct the double of restrooms if they don't need to.

I support having gender neutral restrooms. You look at all horror stories that transgender people encounter over this issue. If not that, have restrooms that just have one toilet or is divided and such. Of course with having open restrooms and such like that, it may take time for people to accept or adapt to it, but I feel it is better than just having transgender people go into the right or wrong restroom, which can lead to disaster.

Not meaning to offend anyone here, but I think restrooms are based on sex and not on gender;
i see no problem with going to the bathroom with your born sex. The amount of people that have alternative sex like chromosomal syndromes are too small to have special bathrooms.
Once you identify as a person with female gender, as someone of the female sex in a male body and go as feminine you can use a feminine sex bathroom.
People that are more gender neutral can go with their born sex.
That makes sense doesn't it?
And ridicule is an issue sadly, but I don't think unisex bathrooms would fix that at all.

By "unisex restrooms" I mean that there would be ONE bathroom for EVERYONE instead of two separate bathrooms for each gender. You may or may not already understand what I was saying, but I have to make sure that your rebuttal was not based on a misunderstanding

People that are more gender neutral can go with their born sex.

What about those who DO NOT HAVE a born sex, where do they go?

I believe the whole M/F bathroom thing is another idea created by man due to our categorizing nature. Many people think that all people have to fit into distinct shiny boxes, if you're not this then you're that, and if you're not that then you're this. Because organisms as a whole are made of unique strands of DNA, it just doesn't work that way. I'ts sort of like colors. You can easily classify what's red, blue and yellow, but when the colors begin to mix, or new one's arise all together, we struggle to shove them into our ignorantly defined categories.

Americans are just way too uptight about nudity.

This I VERY VERY VERY much aggree with.
Americans are easy to use "muh freedom" but the usa is one of the most prude western countries. It's actualy a ridiculous difference.

Oh well while writing I was thinking you wanted to add another bathroom that is unisex but you mean resasing male female bathroom system in the first place.
It doesn't really matter, i still stand by my first post.

What about those who DO NOT HAVE a born sex, where do they go?

Everyone has a born sex, exept for chromosomal syndromes where the x and y chromosomes are ordered differently than normally, however, these are only a VERY small percentage of the population.
Everyone else has a born sex, allthough not everyone has a born gender.

Actualy the DNA example works exactly that way; that's our difference between sex and gender.
The female sex has two x chromosomes, the male has an x and an y.

I'ts sort of like colors. You can easily classify what's red, blue and yellow, but when the colors begin to mix, or new one's arise all together, we struggle to shove them into our ignorantly defined categories.

The actual mixed sexes are chromosomal disorders which are a very very small group of people.

Our main misunderstanding here is the difference between sex and gender.

I've used a few unisex bathrooms, it's a bit weird peeing in front of a dude, try doing it when some random girl walks in, and I doubt they where very comfortable with it ether. But I'd bet with time everyone would become comfortsable with it.
I see no problems with unisex bathrooms at all, litterally nothing.

Americans are just way too uptight about nudity.

Yep, I dont see the problem with nudity, it's just the human body, why the fuck do people get so fucking worked up about it?!

I have never heard of a person whom has neither the female nor male organs between their legs.

That being said, people should understand that regardless of what you happen to arbitrarily identify yourself as, you'll have one of those organs and that is what determines the restroom you go in.

Having two restrooms also keeps the filth distributed. If we're to make unisex bathrooms, make a couple of them so I don't have to walk in on a disaster.

I think the main problem is with people who dress as and present themselves as the opposite biological sex. Do they go in the restroom of their biological sex and risk stares and ridicule and violence, or go in the restroom of the sex they present themselves as, and risk stares and ridicule and violence?

And then an issue comes up even if they are in the unisex bathrooms, it's possible for the same case.

Perhaps instead of male and female, it'd be more appropriate to have male, female and "(n)either".

I would definatly not have a problem with some women in the bathroom... Not that anything would happen because they still need stalls.

It would be more efficiant as long as at, say a high school, they still offered a few single sex bathrooms for issues like being on your period or being sick.

For smaller businesses like a restaurant i don't see a problem. With a venue like a stadium or an arena it is just as much a logistics thing; lots of urinals = faster traffic. For places like malls and clubs, whilst i wouldn't be against the idea, i do think the rest rooms serve more of a purpose than just using the toilets, and i would like to see them kept separate where possible.

Umm idk. A unisex bathroom?
Sounds kinda creepy.
It would probably be very crowded, smelly, and awkward.
Think about it, a grown woman going into a bathroom filled with men....with their dicks out.
Plus there would be a long line of people waiting to use it.
Besides a woman may have her period and needs to use the bathroom, which would be awkward, especially with men there, plus the line, plus the stench, ECT.

The idea may be brought up. But I highly doubt it will be approved.... Besides...girls go to the bathroom together for a reason.. And probably don't want guys there.. Jus sayin

Surprisingly a really good argument actualy. The seperation by sex in restrooms is good for a group of girls or a group of guys to discuss things specific for their sex or gender.

They wouldn't appreciate how comparatively clean they are?

This is something that most people don't know, but women's public restrooms are absolutely disgusting. WAY WAY filthier than the Men's room. Women don't know it because they assume that the men are just filthier, and men don't know it because they think that women are just cleaner, but ask any janitor and they'll tell you that it's much easier to clean the Men's room.

Precisely. LOL. I mean, men's restrooms can definitely have bad moments, but women's restrooms are hardly squeaky-clean.
