To the best of my knowledge, a law takes effect in the state of Maryland, on October 1st, where I live called the "Transgender Fairness Act/Law"!
The main things about this law is that no one can be discriminated aginst if they are transgender! The other thing about this law is that now a man can use a woman's bathroom if they feel that the person is transgender!
It has actually been dubbed the "Bathroom Bill".
I have nothing against transgenders, transsexuals, homosexuals, bisexuals, and so on!!
What I do feel uncomfortable with is the perverts that will use this law as a chance to get their jollies by legally going into the woman's restroom!
There has been a lot of debate about this in my state!
To be honest, I don't even know if there is a law about a man going into a woman's restroom, anyway!
I can understand that no one should be discriminated against!

Playing devils advocate, there have been many cases were transgendered people were assaulted and bullied for using a certain bathroom. I am not transgendered myself so I know I can't be the poster person for this issue. However, as having many transgender friends I know how difficult it is. I just think this decision for now was for the best, and hopefully it is a big step forward for transgendered people getting equal rights.
I do think the best solution is to have gender neutral restrooms. I see many of them here in California and I don't know if they are implemented elsewhere in the country but I think that could be a better solution to this issue.

I honestly do not care about what anyone labels themselves as, I neither support it or am against it, but I don't think this bill is a good idea. I'm not against transgenders, I just think that men (in particular) will use this law to be able to be in the girls bathroom- and then women will get raped. That's just my opinion.

I have to say I agree that people could use this type of law to just get into a particular bathroom without being transgender. The UK brought in a similar law about 2 years ago and there was talk or amending it so that someone had to be making an effort to act/dress in the appropriate gender to be allowed to use the bathroom of the other gender but it got shouted down by rights groups.

In all honesty I doubt that law would be used negatively that often. I find it strange that there is so much outcry about a law that could potentially make perverts go into women's restrooms yet at almost any large event I see women go into men's restrooms when the women's lines are long. Seems like a pretty big double standard. Why have gender specific restrooms at all in this day and age?

I do so believe someone can just walk in and 'pretend' to do so, but I don't think anyone (or really, most people) are going to dress or feel like a girl to perv on someone.
But there is the whole bullying thing. One Trans Guy in my year at our school started using the guys change rooms and some ass in my year started going "EWWW THAT'S GROSS" right in front of him. -sigh-

I think that in the law, transsexuals should be allowed in there proper bathroom, not transgenders. I'm only transgender because I'm going to go transsexual starting when I'm 18/19, the time I feel is right. Your right about this, its weird. Other then that, great law!
