I hurt my back 5 weeks ago, sprained/tore a ligament in my back. I really wanted to play during this weeks game (I play american football) so I practiced yesterday. It hurts so bad I can barely walk today. I probably shouldn't practice today, but there is a coach that gives me so much shit about not practicing because he thinks my injury isn't legitimate. It makes me so mad.
I don't know what to do. :|

You hurt yourself playing American Football? How? That's a fairly sedate game...
There ain't much you can do, just rest up and wait for it too heal.
Last injury I got playing a form of sport was a pulled groin muscle when playing rugby. Hurt like a motherfucker.

I hope you can get some treatment for the pain and rehab -

Rest and go to the doctors...I sprained my knee tendon over the summer and had to go to a orthopedic specialist( and sit out of basketball for the remainder of the season).
Your coach is wrong for that, If you're experiencing that much pain you shouldn't even attempt to practice or do any physical activity for that matter.

First of all I don't believe American football is a sedate game at all. I'm on my 4th year in HS and played 3 years before that. I have had my share of injuries, both simple and severe and Ive even lied to my father from the doctor recommending I sit out a few weeks to recover and only made the injury worse. Do not continue to play or practice. Show up but don't suit up. Tell your father or another instructor of the coach's treatment. To prevent this injury following you through adulthood, SCREW the coach. Its your body.

Explain to him the situation again. If he is continuing to be obstructive or unreasonable, then have one of your therapists write a letter or speak to him over the phone about it.
Your health is a priority. You should follow the advice of your therapists. To overexert yourself is to risk further injury or delaying your chances of recovery. If your coach were to be able to see the bigger picture then he'd understand that.
The more important thing for you is to realise this yourself. Don't be pressured into doing what you don't want. Your body is sending pain signals to you, because it isn't feeling right. It does this for a reason and while some degree of pain is expected with rehabilitation, don't overdo it - you risk doing more harm than good. Your therapists will be able to guide you as to what needs be done.
Hope that helps.

You've clearly hurt yourself - I would say plenty of rest and give your body time to recover. Any decent coach will respect a players wishes to sit out due to injury. I wouldn't let him force you into doing anything as you can ultimately do more harm than good x

The last injury I got was playing football today in PE (I'm a keeper) I forgot my gloves and broke 3 fingers. The consequences of going in goal without gloves! :(

If you continue to play you might further injure yourself and then it might be an even worse situation than it is now. I would probably get an xray or something from the doctor explaining your injuries then you know you have a valid excuse because you need time to heal.

um dude, there have been plenty of people who have been paralyzed for life playing football. how? if you ever actually watched a game, you would see the many different possible ways (including having 300+ pound linemen fall on you) .
just because we wear pads does not mean it is sissy or any of that other crap. granted, there have been moves to make the game safer over the years (esp to try to protect the head from concussions), but tons of stuff still happens. I know I have had a concussion playing before. that is not fun stuff to mess around with
there are people who are now retired from the NFL who sometimes can't remeber their own family because of the beatings they took on the field. so don't give us this crap about "how can you be injured playing football?" because it is crap. a big load of crap

I would like to say that was SATIRE. But OK.
And co pared to a lot of sports, american football is sedate, granted its easy to get hurt, but its also easy to get hurt eating a candy bar. To be fair, compared to a lot of sports, or games out there, American football is hardly dangerous. And yes, I have watched a fair amount of American football, it shows in UK TV in the early hours of the morning and often its the o ly thing worth watching at that time. (Honestly not sure why they show it, can it really have that much of a following in the UK? Maybe its just filler, anyway)
But like I said, that was SATIRE, I really think I should pit something in my sig about what 90% of what I day is a joke, no one gets them and always thinks in being serious.
