I was wondering, when you are banned. Are you only banned for an amount of time or is is permanent? And what sorts of things get you banned here?

When you get Frozen is when you are temporarily banned. I believe all bans are permanent.

When you are frozen, it's not permanent and in most cases last a week.. When you are banned, it is indeed permanent.

It is permanent. Just follow the rules and you won't get banned.

Bans are permanent, unless requested by a member. You can request to be frozen or banned for a certain amount of time to focus on other things in your life, if you need. Otherwise, bans are permanent - however, anyone may appeal their ban to an Administrator.

Some (but not all) things you can get banned for:

- accumulating a certain number of infraction points
- registering overage
- having duplicate accounts
- posting inappropriate pictures/content
- an obvious desire for inappropriate contact with other members

Out of curiosity, how many infraction points is it? Is it dependant on the severity of them, or is it just an arbitey number?

75 to freeze, 100 to ban...and yes, infractions have different point values.

Also, earning two of the same infraction (disobeying staff, fighting, etc...) will freeze as well, no matter the point value.

Is there any way to look at how many infraction points one has accumulated?

You could probably PM senior staff, I'm sure they'd tell you.

It's not like they WANT to ban you :P

You'd be notified via PM if you ever receive an infraction or infraction warning (in case you're wondering, you've never been given one :P)

Any staff member could tell you, not just senior staff. But yeah, I don't see any reason to keep that information from someone if they're curious. It's probably better that they know, honestly. Could save them from another infraction.

If you've received an infraction, it's on your profile or your user cp and looks like:

Like everyone has said really bans are permanent like 95% of the time but in rare cases appeals do go through and members are unbanned but its not an often occurrence.

If your frozen it's for a week. Bans are permanent in some cases. If it is truly permanent...there may be a way I know to get around it...Shhh!!

Don't think I am encouraging it. Don't think it is wrong. Don't judge me. The only thing you got right is I am smart. Cause you might not know how in case you get banned. Anyways I said I *might* know.

The point being that if you know of something that's a security threat, you're better off reporting it to senior staff so they can correct it, rather than giving kids an idea that they can suddenly become hackers.

If I get banned, I'm gonna take it like a man anyways.

In case any makes a duplicate account, that account will be banned and the original will face some complications. Creating an account after being banned is not, in any case, allowed.

Well it's not hacking, exploiting, illegal, or there really isn't a way to stop it. And definitely not duplicating at all. Anyone could do it but you can't do it at the same time. It's pretty simple. Your over thinking. Now lets get back to our everyday lives and live! ✌

Personally I think you're being a bit of an ass with your comments. The fact is we can all think of effective ways to create another account and get a way with it. I can name a good few that have a good chance of working, we all can.

Its true people do get creative and when I was on staff we did see some people get creative in order to bypass the usual checks we do to stop people resigning up and creating a second account and us finding out. However usually we do because every human makes an error, they tell someone, they make mistakes in their posting attitude or story.

Point is you generally do get caught out eventually, it might take a month or two but I'd bet that most people do get caught out eventually.

The point is with your post here:

If your frozen it's for a week. Bans are permanent in some cases. If it is truly permanent...there may be a way I know to get around it...Shhh!!

That makes you sound like an ass, plain and simple because you feel the need to comment saying you know ways around the systems and rules VT has created.

And then the comment 'Move on with our lives'

Well, after making the first post in this thread, you don't expect people to move on with no comments.

Its like punching a guy in face and then saying 'Let's move on now'

Doesn't often happen but hey....an ass will be an ass.

It is always possible to email us, whether or not you're banned.

You do have a point....what if we are accidentally logged in and another annoying sibling gets us banned?

What exactly do you mean?

If another member of your family joins the forum and you know about it then just notify a staff member.

If they sign up secretly and you end up being banned under the false pre-tense of being part of a duplicate account then you can notify the staff and the staff may ask some questions or ask you to do something in order to prove the situation you're saying is true.

You do have a point....what if we are accidentally logged in and another annoying sibling gets us banned?I somewhat doubt a younger sibling would go far to the extent of posting things so horrid you'd have to be banned in a very short amount of time. In that case, you could attempt to justify to an admin.

If you do have a sibling that's know for doing such things in the past, I'd advise logging out every instance you'll be away from the keyboard - even to get a glass of water, and to not store your user/password combination in your browser. You should also talk to them.
