What did you all think of this movie

I personaly thought it was REALLY good.
(I know I'm usualy either super positive or super negative about a movie but hear me out.)
I'm usualy not into drama type movies but this wasn't really a drama imo.
There was no certain epic or dramatic or sad storyline, with annoying things like plot twists and dramatic turns.
"Boyhood" follows a family, through the eyes of a young boy, from the age of 6 to the age of 18.
It's a portrait of the things a family goes through, the way your family and the people around you all try to shape you and change you untill you are family free to do as you want.
There were great moments, funny moments, inspiring moments, and sad moments.
The fact that they actualy took 12 years to make the movie and let all the actors age naturaly, and ajust the storyline of the movie to the actors themselves and events in the world makes the movie unique and interesting.
PLEASE WATCH THIS IF YOU HAVEN'T.
If you have, what did you think?

Do it! I'm not sure where you live but it may be in cinemas now. Not all cinemas show it but if it's not in your main cinema there's always some art house cinema around, that's where I watched it too.

I live in Wales (shit place I want to move away), it could take a whie to filter through to us :P
For some reasons the UK and most of europe always gets films later than the US

Daily reminder that I'm european aswell
*sparkles*
lol I really am tho. Here in the netherlands I was able to see the movie, just not in the general cinemas. I'm lucky enough to live near an arthouse/alternative cinema. Pretty cool btw, you should find one near you there's probably one somewhere. They're usualy run by volunteers and have really good and artistic movies which are usualy not shown in mainstream cinema's, because of either duration time or just because they wouldn't attract visitors in regular cinema's.

Looks interesting. This isn't a first though. There have been a lot of TV shows that started with the actor a little kid, and lasted 10 years. And the Harry Potter movies where you see them all grow up.

Ah the Netherlands, at last I know where you live, I can now die a happy man.
There used to be an art house near me but it shut down because of a fire that destroyed about 30% of the busildint, o was to young to even know what it was when it happened so I never got to go. Shame because it would have been cool.

that's true, but what's kind of special about it is that they weren't followed by the movie, so to stpeak. They shot a few days each year, so it's actualy a tiny part of their lives expressed with a single scene each time, but as a whole it's very beautiful, yaknow?

But the Harry Potter movies are 8 different films, made by several directors. And tv shows are totally different than movies. You are right that it isn't the first time we've seen kids grow up on screen, but the first to do in a single movie.

Yup. That's what makes it pretty unique.
There's also a difference in acting;
the harry potter cast grew up making these films, as in the movies were their lives; they spent 9 years of their lives on movie sets; they were their characters.
As for boyhood, these people got together for only a few days each year! To me that makes the acting more challenging which I think is impressive.

This is an amazing film! I really loved it, especially as I was expecting not to. Loved all the characters and it was really... I don't know what the word it, uplifting kinda. Moving, but not in a sad way exactly. Anyway, yes totally recommend to anyone.

I aggree! For me I think it was because of the way it didn't really glorify childhood and make it seem like a happy time that shapes you, but it emphasised the way you are judged and restricted.

I watched it a couple of days ago right after I read this thread xD
It was awesome (theory wise), the movie itself was kinda slow.. With nothing reaaally major happening. But I like it, seeing life through his eyes, it's like the boy grew up with me.
