Hey guys. So as many of you (probably) know, I am really underweight. I'm 91 pounds. My doctor keeps saying I have to gain some weight but I can't. I eat healthy, but I don't think that's making me not gain any weight. My doctor keeps saying I could get health problems because of this and I always get mad because I can't help it. Before I stop writing/typing I do have to say I DO NOT have anorexia or any other eating disorder. I love food but I just don't gain any weight from it. I do have a high metabolism and that's probably the problem. Is there any way to slow down my metabolism? Or something like that? I'm just worried I'll get health problems because I'm so skinny. Thanks in advance!!
Alex

I am not a doctor. This post could be completely incorrect, i'm just putting down some options.

eat more

your doctor told you, i'm telling you and alot of other people will tell you. it's that simple. i think there's medicine to slow down metabolism but if it was necessary your doctor would have prescribed them.

Drink a bunch of weight gain shakes. :P

But seriously, I don't know if there is any reason you can't, find a good protein brand and make yourself a shake before you go to bed.

I have a friend that is the same way, he eats all the time but is still thin as a twig. He is starting a higher calorie diet to help him gain weight.

from how you discribe it i guess more weight is not meant in terms of jus getting "fatter" so to speak
you could try building up muscle weight - more muscle mass
i do kickboxing and the added muscle mass from training raised my overall weight to 110 pounds atm
maybe ask in a fitness center about possibilities to gain a but more muscle mass. its not as wierd as you think i also heard from the doctors i would be underweight and if i am eating proper.

CARBS. Pasta, potatoes. That kind of stuff. Eat them more and they should help you gain weight.

Eat a high protein, somewhat high-carb diet, and EXERCISE.

I know that sounds really frickin' counterintuitive, but you need to build muscle to build any weight that will stick if you have a high metabolism. Also, make sure your diet is calorie-intensive. Workout different parts of your body.

I went from 100 to 125 pounds in a year and a half. It's from exercising, so I agree with Ren.

Work out, build muscles, eat more foods, like meats, maybe go to McDonald's once or twice a week to gain weight. I'm not quite a body builder but I am wanting to get around 187 and have good muscles as I am a big guy

Eat more. To gain weight, you need calories. It's that simple. Try to find something that you can eat a lot of that is fairly dense in calories. Strength training will help you gain muscle rather than fat, but if you don't have the calories, you won't gain anything.

Building muscle helps you gain weigh and improve your physique. You don't need any fancy machines or regimes; you can do calisthenics (basically exercises using your own body weight; also called bodyweight exercises) to build muscle. Just google it.

And foods that are dense in calories... so things like nuts/nut butters, fats...

Here is a way that you can gain weight without exercise. Right before you go to bed eat a lot of calories because your metabolism slows down and at night your body burns less calories and you will gain weight. Also if you want to lose weight then eat dinner earlier and dont eat after 6pm

You should follow this, you can only gain weight if you eat more calories. These extra calories are extra energy that won't be used soon, so it'll be stored in the form of fat and give you more weight.

Yeah, a lot of it's been covered already, but instead of doing cardio kinda exercises (So exercises making you lose fat), try improving your muscle mass instead. Since muscle does weigh more than fat. It may take time, but at least then, you might feel better about yourself, still being able to exercise (Because exercise is still good for you)

There's really no fix to this, I used to be underweight and I am still very lean. 5"4 at 110 pounds. You're metabolism when you're young, is good/fast. Meaning that the food you eat, almost always gets processed in a timely manner, therefore you can't gain weight and/or keep the weight you gain. It will change in time, but being skinny is no problem!
