It can if you don't use lube ( your anus doesn't produce any lubrication what soever ) so if you where to have anal sex, you'd need lube. There are other factors in this but it'd get to graphic to say so it can but it doesn't always.

For a first timer or someone who hasn't done it in a while, being the bottom can cause some discomfort. Whether or not it's pain depends on both the overall size of the penis and your tolerance for said pain. Those are two of the main factors dictating whether or not bottoming is painful for you.

I've bottomed many times, and each time has proven to be slightly different for me. And in terms of sex, I have a good tolerance on regular normal penetrative sex pain. My first time was not painful more than it was odd. Other times, it would sometimes hurt a bit. Like I said, that depends on the size. Either way, it takes a bit of time to get used to it before there's almost no pain and just pleasure.

The reason why there's pain at first is because the, for lack of a better term, asshole is naturally tight before penetration. When the penis enters, it stretches the hole rather quickly and is thus the cause of the pain. And no, going slow doesn't make much difference. And don't worry, the asshole is pretty resilient and can withstand that kind of initial stretch. Once it gets used to it, the pain will be near nonexistent.
