View Full Version : Acne?

I can't seem to get rid of my acne. I've tried Pro Activ, and several other systems like it. One seemed to work for a while, and then I ran out, and then it got discontinued. I play a sport all three seasons and I am active in gym, so I'm sweating. I put cover up on in the morning so the acne isn't noticeable, and that probably isn't helping either. I've got semi dry skin in some areas, and then oily in others. That made no sense, but I can try to explain it. My cheeks get very dry, and start flaking. And at the same time my chin and forehead is oily. Does anyone have any ideas that could help this? I don't want to do anything that adds too much time to my schedule, I don't really have enough time to do anything major in the morning. I usually wash my face when I get home from practice. Any help would help. Thanks in advance.

Well for starters, there's the obvious step of washing your face. Don't just use regular soap though- find a face cleanser/moisturizer. Secondly, if over the counter acne fighters when used on a daily basis for at least two weeks show no results, you need to talk to a dermatologist. And yeah make-up isn't exactly great for your skin- I understand your use of it though [I'm right there with you lol] just be sure to wash it off thoroughly each night.

I agree with Val
It might be an idea to go talk to a dermatologist anyway, they will most definitely be able to help you :)

I don't know if you wash you face every morning, but during the night you lose a lot of fluid in the form of sweat. Its normal, but thats why its important to wash your face every morning, especially before you put any kind of make-up on (as well as washing your hands before you apply makeup). It might also be an idea to change your pillow case more often, maybe every couple/few days. And before you do any sports you should wash the make up off (make-up wipes?). And of course, after sports, to wash off the sweat...
Pain in the ass right. But it might help. :)
And try not to touch your face unless you have washed your hands.
Sorry for throwing random ideas at you :P

I hope you manage to sort everything out :)

Cleansers don't work for some people, as you have indicated.
My sister has scars on her face from the same problem,
But her acne went away this last year and the scars are healing.

If it's a major problem like that, and cleansers arn't working, I believe that they do have a medication for severe acne. Talk it over with your parents, a dermatolagist or your doctor and see if that would be a possibility.

Simple Astringent works too. It helps to dry your face if your skin is very oily and it dries out any acne. Like everything else, it takes time to work but as long as you keep with it atleast once a day(I use it twice..morning and night) then you will see results.

I posted here about my acne problem before. I've been trying to do a better job of cleansing and putting acne cream on since then. I've been washing my face twice a day, and putting spot treatment on. I still haven't noticed any difference. I am thinking about trying the Clean and Clear 3 Step Treatment. Does anyone use this? Or know if it doesn't work that I can get my money back? I have been doing everything that I possibly can to stop my acne. Cleansers, moisturizers, lotions, and masks. It's not really possible for me to go to the dermatologist because A.) The closest one is about 2 hours away, and B.) Our health insurance wouldn't cover it and we are in kind of a financial situation at the moment. I've tried not to put any makeup on my acne right now, to see if that helps, but it doesn't really. I've read online that you aren't supposed to pick at your skin, which I kind of have a tendency to do. I'm trying to stop that also. Is it bad to wash your face in the shower? I take really hot showers, and they are usually around 15-20 minutes. Could that be making my acne worse? Does anyone have any other ideas? The answer to the Clean and Clear Treatment maybe? Should this be merged with my other thread? I'm not really sure. Thanks in advance for your help.

(--merged with the other thread, since it's not very old yet and this is basically the same concern--)

Do you have particularly oily skin? If so, you need to be using a facial cleanser designed for that, it can make a bit of a difference. If not though, I suggest using Cetaphil, it's got no added colors or fragrances, so it won't irritate your skin and it leaves less behind to potential clog your pores worse. Before you wash, wet your washcloth with water about as hot as your typical hot shower. Wring it out, then maybe sit on the lid of the toilet and tilt your head back so you can hold the cloth onto your face for a few minutes, and then use the soap on your face directly afterwards. The heat helps open up your pores, so the soap can get in and clean it all up. Then, try using some Oxy or Noxema pads. They're sort of strong-smelling, but they'll help a bit. Washing your face in the shower is fine, maybe even better because the steam can help open your pores. As for how well Clean and Clear will work for you, I can't say, everyone's a little different. You could try that (if you do, disregard my Oxy pads comment), and see how it goes. And definitely keep trying not to pick at your face. Try not to even be touching your face if you can avoid it, the oils and dirt on your hands can make for crazy zits on your face. Be sure you're changing your pillowcase every week, leaving it there more than that can lead to the accumulation of oils in the fabric (after-all, your head sits there for 8 hours every night), which can cause zits on your face. Be sure to give the Clean and Clear stuff, or whatever you decide to try next, at least two or three weeks of regular use before you give up on it. And let us know how it works! :)

A daily application of Crisco should do the trick.

I've heard of toothpaste, but Crisco? As in vegetable oil, more or less? Though it would probably keep your skin soft and moisturized, wouldn't that make the acne situation a lot worse?

I had bad acne for a while too...and Finally found a great product that worked for me, and its cheap which I love.

I probably cant link to the site directly...im sure its considered advertising but google "Acnexus", (the name of the product) and find their site....it has a bunch of happy customer quotes on it.

the product is just a facial scrub you rub on for 2 minutes then wash off. I use it once a day but it says use it 2-3 times a day...but it still works for me using it once.

I also tried proactive and even Dr. ordered meds, they never seemed to work for me though. Now I'm just happy it have this product and it's working.

BTW I am in no way advertising or selling this product, I'm just a happy customer.

I use to have moderate acne on my forehead, but I went to a dermatologist and he gave me a topical cream that I put on every night and it's called BenzaClin. Works wonders for me.

Also, since you said your skin is sometimes flaky and what not, try using a very mild cleanser to your face such as Spectro jel. You can get spectro jel at a drug store and choose from dry skin to oily skin.. or combination skin which treats both.
For oily skin, be sure to use a moisturizer that’s oil-free and non-comedogenic (won’t clog pores). I use Neutrogena. You can get it for oily skin or sensitive skin.

Trying strange home remedies can sometimes just damage your skin and make you break out, so be careful.

Also since you said you wear coverup to hide the acne, and said it doesn't help the situation.. why not try something that is water based and not oil. then perhaps finish off with a mineral powder which is good for sensitive and acne prone skin.

Good luck.
