Hey VT, recently I've been toying around with Ubuntu (trying to*) and can't access my BIOS menu on Windows 8.1. Forgive me for sounding like a noob, but how do I access it to boot from a USB Drive? I already tried advanced restart, but that didn't take me to a BIOS screen, only to some windows recovery thing.
Thanks!

I wish I could help, but I have zero experience with Windows 8. If you have any other questions about Ubuntu I'm your man though.

And I'm assuming you're using the standard Unity interface and not KDE or Gnome right?

The BIOS and OS are usually independent, and rather is related to your motherboard.

Usually the BIOS menu can be accessed through one of the F-keys during computer startup, before any Windows stuff appears. You'll then want to change the startup and put your HDD/SSD in last priority.

When I was setting up a few laptops at school I believe I had to hold the delete button after loading it up and pressing restart to access the boot menu, not sure if this is the same for all 8.1 laptops though..
Edit: From the boot menu you can choose UEFI or something

WARNING! Windows 8 computers have been idiot proofed, complesly, I mean to such a serpvear point you don't get a blue screen if death anymore, just a blue screen with a sad face, it wouldn't surprise me if they have gone to the point of making the BIOS unaccesable on Windows 8 computers. They may have removed that feature too comply with Microsoft's "user friendly" laws

Cold boot and spam the bios hotkey.

Windows 8 PCs don't use BIOS, instead they use UEFI (it's not anything new tbh)
