According to http://www.deltadentalins.com/oral_health/gum-chewing.html

"Studies have shown that chewing sugar-free gum after meals and snacks can help rinse off and neutralize the acids released by the bacteria in plaque, which are harmful to tooth enamel."

"While chewing gum containing sugar may actually increase your chances of developing a cavity"

According to http://www.oralanswers.com/chewing-gum-good-bad-teeth/

"Chewing gum can be good and bad for your teeth depending on what type of gum you chew.

Gum can basically be classified into three different types based on how it is sweetened:

1 - Gum that is sweetened the old-fashioned way - with sugar.

2 - Gum that is sweetened with artificial sweeteners like aspartame.

3 - Gum that is sweetened with sugar alcohols such as sorbitol.

The bacteria in your plaque love to feed on the sugar found in sugary chewing gum and hurt your teeth. The sugar in chewing gum sweetened with sugar can stick around in your mouth for a long time and continue to feed the bacteria that live on your teeth, allowing them to harm your teeth."

This post sums up your answer, but there is more to add too. Depending if you have phenilketonuria, or allergie, some brands could also be bad for you. You'd have to read the label when buying chewing gum. About which ones are still sugared, well there's the Adams brands, and the generic gum balls that drop from dispensers in malls.

I've personally found the Trident and 5 gum to be good for chewing.
