If there's a new health and advice mod needed does that mean someone left the mod team?

Usually that is the case, yes.

I'd assume if a section were suddenly getting more traffic and the mods available didn't have the time to deal with it all themselves, a new mod might be chosen as well. (Don't quote me on that though, I'm not an admin and dunno if that's the case.)

But usually it's because someone left and there's a space open.

It really depends. Sometimes it's a yes, sometimes it's not the case.

Staff looks for a position for several reasons, like Jo said. It is quite obvious by looking at the staff list that there's been a departure, so that's basically the case in this one, but that's not the only reason for a position opening.

Dame is no longer a mod, so with only two mods in the section, it's best to look for another so that the section has enough supervision.

how often do yall replace mods?

It depends on if mods are needed. If there's a higher activity in a section, more mods may be added or if someone leaves, someone will take their place. You could see openings a couple of months apart or half a year apart.

No one is really "replaced", it's just on an as needed basis.
