How to be emo?

I've seen pictures of guys with this fashion style called emo, and thought they were really cute and I want to look like that, but how can I make myself look that way? Hair, clothes, everything - can you give a step by step explanation? I think it's the perfect look for me, but I can't figure out how to make it happen... and what stores are best to go to for emo clothes?

Are piercings/plugs/etc. your kind of thing? You might stretch your ears if you find that suits you.

Like, I'm not a huge expert on this topic because I personally don't feel I fall into that "label", but my ears are stretched, so if you needed any explanation on how to go about that I could be of use.

Dye your hair black, keep the back short and spiked with gel but the bangs and top long and straightened. Piercings of some kind are common in emo fashion too. Wear skinny jeans and high top skater shoes. Vans and converse are the most popular. As for shirts, v necks and black tees are the most popular. Striped hoodies are too. Beanies are another common accessory.

For colors you should go with black, and bright neon/primary colors. Avoid pastels and light hues.




Now that's just the most common emo look. It goes without saying that you should wear whatever you like and change up whatever you feel the need too. There are no rules in fashion. :D
