By a vote of 79-18, the Senate just voted to advance a constitutional amendment that would overturn Citizens United. The vote is a historic landmark which demonstrates the overwhelming public support for limiting corporate money in elections.

Now it just needs to pass the house. Oh please, for fucks sake, let it pass the house. Please, for the live of all that is good, let it pass the fucking house.

The government is ruled by old, rich white men that use their vast wealth to keep themselves in power. Theorectically, there is a chance, but I doubt it.

Don't lose hope, it just needs to pass the house. It wouldn't stand a chance now but maybe if the GOP gets voted out in November and Democrats regain control it'll get through.

That the US even allowed the law to pass is completely insane. In Canada, you aren't allowed to donate more than $1000 to a political party. One penny more, and by law you can go to jail (although that has never happened in practice, the elected officials are usually ordered to pay back the finances)

And if it's found that there are spending discrepancies or any corruption, those Members of Parliament or Members of the House of Assembly are thrown out of Commons and they call a new byelection.

I hope the US can eventually get enough sense to stop allowing it's lawmakers to have their vote purchased. Then maybe you'll get something done.
