US girl group G.R.L. is mourning the tragic loss of 25-year-old band member Simone Battle to an apparent suicide.

The pop band, whose hit 'Ugly Heart' has gone double-platinum on the ARIA Charts, released an official statement via Twitter to express their sadness over losing one of their young stars.

"Words cannot express the depth of our loss, Simone's incredible talent was only surpassed by the size of her heart," the statement reads. "We will carry her memory with us in everything we do."

The singer was found dead in her West Hollywood apartment on Friday morning, with an autopsy being conducted today. Law enforcement sources told TMZ the star was found "hanging on a rod in the closet of her bedroom".

It's been just weeks since Simone and bandmates Natasha Slayton, Emmalyn Estrada, Paula van Oppen and Lauren Bennett visited Australia to promote 'Ugly Heart', including a performance on X Factor Australia (see below).

Other stars have paid tribute to the young performer, including Simon Cowell, who mentored Simone when she made the top 17 in X Factor US in 2011.

I'm very sadden by this. Ugly Heart is one of my favourite songs right now and when all the girls appeared on X Factor Australia only a few weeks ago they all looked so happy. Such a shock.

Often times when someone becomes famous they find that nobody else can understand their problems, and they feel like they can't talk to anyone. It's an unfortunate side of what many people think would be a dream job.
