I was just in Finland with a Finnish friend this summer, and in the public swimming pool, the showers are sex-segregated, but children up to 12 are allowed in the wrong side if they're with a parent or older sibling. The showers are open and you're obliged to shower naked. We went in a biggish group of my friend's friends - about 10 boys, all 14-16, but three of them also brought their little sisters along - one was only 7, but the others were 12. The Finnish guys didn't seem to mind at all standing there naked in front of 12 year-old girls, and they just ignored them mostly, but I felt awkward. I noticed they were both taking a good look at some of the boys' penises and backsides. At that age, do you think it's just curiosity, or would they find it arousing?

Maybe some of both, but you're looking at a different culture from the one you are familiar with. These
girls have probably been seeing boys nude since they were a lot younger. And they are now seeing
the changes that happen to boys as a result of puberty.

I spent a few weeks in Europe a couple summers ago and it's just a different culture. There is nudity on tv over there. So I don't think it's a big deal. Still who knows what's going through their heads, maybe they're a little curious since it's so close, but on the other hand they have probably done nude beaches and showers their whole lives.

And here was me thinking the dutch were quite relaxed people - perhaps that was based on the fact they make no effort to hide the brothels and strip shows in Amsterdam and people buy and smoke pot in cafés.

To be fair Scandinavia, which includes Finland, Norway and Sweden has a reputation for being particularly immodest when it comes to bodies and sex even within Europe which is, as a rule, less uptight than either the UK or the USA.

This kind of thing does bring home to you that there is no absolute right and wrong about how modest people should be with their bodies it is a cultural things and a case of what people gow up being comfortable with.

I live in very south Florida. For a couple of years, we don't have enough bathrooms in our school. So all of us just choose a close bathroom, rather it is boys or girls. We see the boys pee in front of us all the time and some of them would turn around and let us see their pens for awhile. But this year, the girl shower is halfway working. I couldn't wait, so I walked over to the boys locker nude and join in with some boys. The male gym teacher asked my why I was in there. Some girls did use the boys showers a few times but they did it when there were no boys in there. I showered with the boys 4 times so far. But there is talk about the school is trying to be Co ed so it would cost less to have separate. None of the staff ever say anything about sharing bathrooms or the showers now. Maybe they are too embarrassed to say because they need to fix them?

They were probably some combination of both. Some might've just been curious though. That's around the age that girls usually tend to become more interested in sex/etc.

The attitude in Europe is different. I was in Marseille in France at a public pool/sports centre, and there was only one open-plan shower area for everybody, and swimsuits were optional. In practice all the girls and women took off their tops but kept on their bottoms, while almost all the guys, including teens, stripped off completely. They tended to face the wall so you saw more of their arses than their knobs, but nobody was especially shy. Of the females around, nobody seemed interested in staring (except me.)

The "concentration" of hormones can vary a great deal in 12 year old girls. Me for instance could easily be aroused and not only curious to see a penis.

anyways, people in Europe see nudity more often than people often do here in the US. it could have been some of the 12 year old girls were interested, but a lot of it was probably simply curiosity. the guys who are older grew up with that so it probably is not something they think twice about. I know I shower after sports enough to where I don't think twice about showering naked after a gym or in a gyms shower or whatever
