hey everyone :) so near the end of the summer I started subbing at a daycare part time. this is my first real job (I babysit once-twice a week for a cousin, she pays me minimum wage) and i have 2 last full shifts on tuesday and wednesday. and then school starts (which will mean that i cant work there any more.)

that being said, after those 2 shifts. I will have worked a total of 48 hours there. 2 half day shifts, and 5 full day shifts.

I am starting to look for a part time job to work at while im in highschool.

The question is: should I get a reference to put on my resume, even though I have worked so little hours?

pro(s)
-first legit job
-most recent work

con(s)
-its a daycare job.. not sure if retail places will go over with that so well
-haven't worked THAT many hours.

Also, if I were to get a reference, should i ask for one from the director of the daycare (my actual boss), or from a coworker, who has been working along side with me in the classroom.

thanks a lot. -zach

The more references the merrier, so why not ask them both? :)

It's always a good idea to use a previous job as a reference if it went well it all. Even if the fields are unrelated, they can still ask questions about how dependable, or trustworthy you are, how your work ethic is, and it also shows that you have worked somewhere that you are proud enough of your work to use as a reference.
