ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST PARISH (WGNO) -More than twelve and a half thousand people in St. John parish are at risk of a brain eating amoeba detected in the water system.

Which means folks in Reserve, Garyville and Mt. Airy are advised to take precaution.

A water sample taken two weeks ago by the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals tested positive for the potentially deadly bacteria called Naegleria fowleri amoeba.

This is the same brain eating amoeba found in both St. Bernard and DeSoto Parish last year and blamed for two deaths.

Beginning of a zombie apocalypse? :P

It's an amoeba not a bacterium so the title should probably be corrected.

This can't begin a zombie apocalypse, Naegleria fowleri eats the brain and with it are gone all personality traits, all senses, all motor responses and all visceral controls, it could start an apocalypse if it somehow found its way to all available water supplies worldwide, but still wouldn't be a zombie apocalypse.

Just to add, you're safe as long as you don't swim in the body of water where it was found.

Yeah, that's my mistake. If a mod could please correct that I'd appreciate it.

Uhm, thanks for the explanation. I was totally joking about the zombie part though. :P
