I'm soon to go and get on birth control, what do the doctors do when you go in for it? and what type should I go for: Pills, shot, IUD? I know some of the side effects but any input would be appreciated.

I'm considering getting some myself, more so the pill. I've got a friend who had the implant and she bruised so badly....
The pills are meant to help reduce periods too and that's a bonus! X

I'm on the pill and I have been for a year and a half nearly.... When I first went they took my blood pressure, weight and asked questions like am I pregnant? sexually active? and stuff like that (being sexually active can determine which pill they give you due to some being more for acne ect.) I get three months supply per and each time I go back its the same questions and just a general check up to make sure I don't have any headaches or pain from out of the normal.
When I started taking the pill I had pain when I came on my period but I don't really have any problems with it bar I have gained weight; although this is due to other factors as well... and when people say its harder to loose weight when on the pill, I've lost 8 ibs in 3 weeks so I wouldn't worry about that.
Some of my friends have had the implant and they fell ill more often and have been left with scars. The shots are quite good and are probably better for someone who isn't the best at keeping track of taking tablets, or you don't want people to know that you are on contraception.
Hope this helps, but it would probably best to talk to a doctor or treatment nurse, Also everyone is different so someone's experience might not be the same as how your body reacts :)

I'd suggest for the first time, you start with the pill. And if it doesn't work out, remember, there are different brands and whatnot so you have a few options to choose from if the first go doesn't help.
Careful if you're on antibiotics because they reduce the effectiveness of the pill. Also, if you get migraines with an aura, you cannot use birth control pills due to blood pressure problems and the risk of a blood clot. I have chronic migraines but without an aura so it's okay for me to use them but my doctor monitors me carefully. So far, though, I've had no problems.
Birth control is convenient for many reasons. It helps make your period more regular, often decreases the flow so you're not getting ridiculous periods that soak through everything, helps protect against pregnancy, etc. Also, bonus, if you're going on a trip the week you're meant to get your period, you can just skip to the next month's set and skip your period. Although I've been told by a nurse that it's perfectly safe, don't get into a habit of this though, because it does mess with your hormones. I've done it a couple times under certain circumstances with only a bit of spotting though.
Good luck.

I know that my mom uses it but she hasn't talked to me about that yet.

Younger girls they usually put on the pill. IUDs are for older gals in committed relationships. Implants, I dunno. I've been on the pill since I got my period at 12, and it's helped keep me regular and my skin clear.
