so I'm commiting to islam so from what I am told by friends and my girlfriend you have to be circumcised I wanna ask

1 .has anyone aged 16-18 done this

But anyway, I don't know what circumcision is like, but, from a religious point of view, circumcision is customary for Islamic converts but strictly speaking, it is not an absolute requirement of the faith. Circumcision is seen as an act to demonstrate you adherence to Allah's Will. In this case, circumcision is practised as all other prophets (including the prophet Mohammed) have been circumcised right back down to the prophet Ibrahim (Abraham to the Christian faith and Abram to the Jewish, I believe). It is also seen as important because it will contribute to your overall cleanliness and therefore purification of one's self. (It is my understanding that purification is very important to islamic people, both spiritually and physically).

I will say, I am not Muslim, so forgive me if any of my facts relating to Islam are wrong.

"Allah does not want to place burden on you. Rather, He wants to purify you and to complete His favours to you so that you may be grateful." [The Holy Qur'an 5:7]

If I was converting, as an uncircumcised male myself, I would take this passage rather to heart. While in the Islamic faith circumcision is customary and expected for hygiene reasons, I take into account the associated risks with the physical procedure. I also believe that very good hygiene can still be upheld without circumcision (it really isn't hard, is it?). As you are in puberty (I am assuming), I would wait until you are sure your penis has stopped growing (You don't want too much cut off and have painful erections). Should it not be safe for you to circumcise for any reason (like being in puberty and your penis is still growing), then it is understood by the Imams and you can do it later when it is safer for you to do so. But, again, if I was the convert, I would not undergo the surgery at all as I firmly believe that the same hygiene standards can be maintained while having a foreskin and it is not one of the Five pillars of faith.

I think there might be an Islamic group on VT, you should join and ask there if you want some advice from guy or girls that are actually muslim. Alternatively, you should speak to your Imam (I think that is what they are called).

As with converting to any religion, this is something personal that you must decide for yourself, no one should influence this decision. It should only be done for yourself.

Dude, you shouldn't be doing this to please anyone. Not just about the circumcision, just religion in general. You will do what you feel is right, but yo have to do this for yourself. If your foreskin is super tight, as you say due to some childhood incident, then that would be a suitable medical reason to get the circumcision done, for sure (Speak to a doctor, they can examine you and tell you if getting circumcised has real risk for you right now). But, religion is personal and should not be influenced by anyone else. Also, as an afterthought, it is not your gf's parents business what your penis looks like down there. Just saying. . . But in terms of conversion, go to your local mosque and ask for a Imam and basically just talk about Islam and why you might convert. Religion is a personal thing and something that should be committed to for life. My mother is an Anglican priest and my Aunt married a Jew. On some level, both have tried to introduce their own religion onto me, but even they both know that I need to take the religion on my own. It wouldn't be right to force it on me.

Dude, you shouldn't be doing this to please anyone. Not just about the circumcision, just religion in general. You will do what you feel is right, but yo have to do this for yourself. I completely agree with tapdancer if you have a medical reason for getting circumcised then go for it but do not do it to please someone or there parents as it will be something you regret when you are older and also with the converting to the islamic religion that should be your choice for yourself if your converting to islam to please your girlfriend and her parents than all you are doing is destroying and diluting the religion for people who truly believe in it and whos actual faith it is because you are not doing it for pure reasons. im not religious but even i can see how wrong it is you converting to a religion just to please someone else.

What I've read is that most of Muslims are circumcised at age of 13, but from a religious point of view is not a must. But, as you say, you will find most of Muslims are cut so maybe there is kind of `pressure`to do it.

Now, about the conversion. I think you should study the religion to see if you agree with it, comparing with other point of views, not just because your gf want it. You can`t know for sure that you will be together with her forever.

Being Cut in Islam is sunnet ( not strictly required things , that is something that would be " nice " for every muslim ) ... Although I am muslim , my parents didnt want to cut me , but I realized that I have phimosis and I tell them , and so they cut me more because of phimosis than because of religion ...
