The Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kansas, known for its anti-gay vitriol and picketing funerals of American soldiers, is threatening to picket the funeral of Robin Williams, claiming the late actor “decided to use his considerable talent to push filthy life styles [sic], flagrant debauchery and hedonism.” WBC announced its plans on Twitter, using the hashtags #MustPicketFuneral and #PicketFuneral.

I cannot even begin to explain how I feel about this. I haven't ever been this impacted by a celebrities death. That being said, hearing that the WBC is going to protest it... That just pushes me over the edge.

If I sigh loud enough at this, I'm afraid all of you will hear it.

I seriously hope they give him and all his loved ones peace, he obviously had a hard life and that religion needs to grow a heart.

I've seen a Robin Williams thread, post, article etc everywhere I've gone. so since you and most everyone is impacted so greatly....naturally these clowns are going to exploit that. Maybe some of the celebrities attending will lay into them and they will get more than they bargained for.

*shakes head* Idiots can't be educated. Just wish they would stop dragging the name 'Baptist Church' through the mud.

This isn't even something most people would do to their worst enemy. This is pathetic. I wish these WBC pricks were just wiped off the earth.

What's sad is that this doesn't surprise me at all. Some people have no heart whatsoever.

Yep. In their eyes, they're doing what's "right," and anyone that says otherwise is ridiculous.

Can't understand how. This is all i'll say on it since it's not a debating thread and I don't feel like debating. But first and foremost the bible preaches that God loves everyone. Any Christian organisation who suggests that God hates certain groups of people are making up their own bs. Anyways, that's all i'll say.

Why haven't these guys been shot or beaten by an angry mob yet?

I don't know too much about their details but I think it's them making up their own bullshit because as you said, in the bible, it says that god loves everyone. He hates the sin, not the sinner. That right there destroys the "god hates fags" claim that they're infamous for.

Why haven't these guys been shot or beaten by an angry mob yet?

I honestly have no idea. Lots of people are crazy and lots of people have guns. how none of the WBC members haven't been shot is nothing short of a miracle. I gotta say that I really hope some one never opens fire on them because there are little kids that were born into the group. They were born into hate so it's not their fault. It's a perfect example of propaganda used on little kids to shape them. Former leader Fred Phelps was like Hitler in a way.

I know, I'm not saying they should be, I support free speech and whatnot, I'm honestly just amazed they haven't been assaulted yet. It seems so unlikely they could go and protest at the funerals of children and vets and not have been shot or something yet. They've been lucky.

They have definitely been assaulted. When crowds prove to be too much for them, they get in their vans and leave. However, with angry groups of people, it's tough to get a Giant Ford E-350 van out of a parking lot or city street without some windshield smashing and regular side window shattering.

Did you hear that? That was the sound of me saying "Fuck you, WBC". It really is a miralce (or possibly a tragedy) that the group hasn't been shot in their sleep, beaten to death by angry mobs or something like that.. but I can see it happening soon..

I think the WBC is just trolling all of us. That's just heartbreaking news.

The best way to kill trolls is to ignore them and let them starve.

Unfortunately, the WBC has been stubborn as fucking cockroaches. It's a shame that they would choose to picket the funeral of this wonderful man and disrespect his family and all others who looked up to him. Hopefully they get it back tenfold.

There is a REASON I fucking hate that church, if they all happened to die in a napalm fire I think everyone would just laugh

They're classified as a hate group. This doesn't shock me.

It just...Saddens me deeply. Like you, I've been deeply impacted by his death. He was one of my favorite actors period.

I knew it was only a matter of time, but it still makes me angry. SO many people are... Being complete assholes over his death, to put it mildly.

I feel like they just want to be infamous or something. I don't know...What is it about people who are UNIVERSALLY LIKED that makes people want to act nasty? I get that you aren't special by your own merits, but pipe the fuck down. Sometimes obscurity is better than infamy.

I'm just generally disillusioned by the world right now.

Westboro Baptist Church is just a bunch of extremists looking into this matter to push their fame and nab a spotlight in the headlines and news. It's depressing to see they'll go that far to be known.

WBC is a successful troll because their opponents usually go out of their way to show how much they care. being a connoisseur of fine trolling myself, I gotta say they're doing it right :D

That's just the thing. They really only think in favor if their religious views. Because of that, they saw Robin Williams as an important and influential part of American culture, which made him a great target. Everyone's freaking out about their plans to picket it, making them more well known, thus generating more money and power for them. It's actually a pretty intelligent method. Well, except for the fact that there are a bunch of pissed off Americans they have to face wherever they go. It's really surprising that no one's just gone full out crazy and shot them during a protest.

It's a lot like how terrorists view Americans, Australians, and other people of the 'free' world. It's not who we are, but what we stand for.

All of this is just my view. I've got no evidence to back any of my claims.

This group is neither a church nor Baptist, they don't deserve either title and they are both being dragged through twelve-week-old chicken dung. This is crazy how even a hate group can have so much hatred in it. Why can't we live nice for once? Why are hate groups legal again? What is there to protest? Robin Williams was an iconic actor, teacher, gave smiles to the sad, and was so genuine. What is there to hate about him? You don't have to love him but really, some chose hate over love to a man that was battling depression? I don't get the protests, I just don't. I wanna cry. I hope most realize not all Baptists or Christians are Westboro.

I live in a small town less than an hour south east of Topeka, and all there trying to do is get attention to themselves... pure and simple. Why else would they be doing it? sure you could say that what there doing is for a different reason, like trying to prove a point, but in reality, its to just gain the attention. And honestly I saw this coming.
