SHITTY NINJA TURTLES REBOOT GETS A SEQUEL

Paramount grabs June 3 2016 date for surprise-hit Michael Bay reboot

The Michael Bay-produced reboot of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was widely expected to do only average, possibly disappointing business this past weekend; based on toxic advanced word of mouth, brutal reviews from critics, a stronger than anticipated holdover for Marvel's Guardians of The Galaxy and a famously troubled production history that included the project at one point being shut down entirely over a poorly received script that reconceived the characters as aliens. But audience's rewarded the film with a hefty $65 million opening weekend, so a sequel has already been greenlit for June 3rd of 2016.

Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes company will once again produce the film for Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon, with the same screenwriters slated to return as well. No potential story details have yet been suggested. It is not known whether director Jonathan Liebesman and (human) stars Megan Fox and Will Arnett will be asked back as well. In a statement, Paramount CEO Brad Grey praised the franchised, saying: "We are thrilled with this weekend's result, the enduring power of this franchise, and the opportunity to make another one."

The newly-chosen date places TMNT 2 to once again open one week after an expected comic-book behemoth, Fox's X-Men: Apocalypse. Though dates frequently change, the only other film currently scheduled for that date is Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg's Sausage Party, an R-rated animated comedy about a group of supermarket food items who suffer existential crises upon discovering they have been mislead about what happens to food "lucky" enough to be purchased.

If you decided to go to the cinemas and watch this tripe instead of just watching Guardians of the Galaxy. You should feel awful knowing that this generation humanity now has to experience these green monstrosities. Again.

Is anybody surprised? The TMNT were the heyday back in the 80's so a lot of people had to watch the new film, even with all the negative criticism floating about before its release. But now they've seen how bad it is... I don't expect the second to perform nearly as well as the first movie.

It's so funny when people hate on successful people for being, well, successful.

My brothers saw the movie last Friday and they enjoyed it, and so did quite of few of their kid friends. A few of my friends also saw it and they enjoyed it, so Michael Bay is obviously doing something right, gotta give it to him.

This. This exactly. Yeah Michael Bay is notorious ("notorious" to some) for stupid explosions everywhere, but that's because it's what some people like. By some people, I mean a lot of pre teens and teenagers like us. Everyone's got different taste. So yeah, he's successful for a reason.

 there are plenty of directors out there who are both highly successful and well-liked by many, so that's obviously not the reason. Bay attracts haters because he churns out pallet-loads of corny, mediocre summer movies that lumpenproles with no taste flock to in droves. it's one thing to be successful because your movies are good (see: Kubrick, Scorsese, Coppola) but it's quite another when you're only famous for your mediocrity.

He's hated because he's successful for making movies that certain people dislike. "Good" is such a subjective term, especially when you're referring to anything in the entertainment industry, so I don't see how comparing him to directors that you consider "good" is valid at all.

Also, just because someone likes something you don't doesn't mean they don't have any taste or bad taste.

I tried watching a 22 minute episode, and it got old after about... 5 minutes. Kudos to you that like that kind of shit, but for me it's boring and kind of pointless.

this is the most excruciatingly millennial thing I have read in ages. success is or is supposed to be measured by merit, so when people are famous only for being famous (i.e. fame itself is its own justification) we end up with nothing but mediocrity - Paris Hilton, the Kardashians, Kate Gosselin, etc.

YOU SEE, THE DIFFERENCES HERE ARE QUITE SUBJECTIVE (reblog if u agree)

if it makes money it must be good! :lol3:

and of course it's not always, go figure, thank you captain obvious.

I'm not a Michael bay fan, I've watched a few of his movies and while they're entertaining they're not the best things ever. My point is that the hate people have for him goes ways overboard, just like how you've taken your time just to try to prove to me why he's not good by your standards. I honestly don't care if you like him or not; people are going to like different things. When you get down to it he's making money for blowing shit up and you're sitting here telling me he's not good for that reason and it makes me lol.

-also I won't be responding anymore, id rather not turn this into a bash fest

My thoughts exactly, he shat all over it with overboard effects, explosions and noise. Oh he did that with Transformers too.
