Hi I was wondering could anyone explain self- harm Tumblr blogs to me, why people set them up and why other people use them? Thanks

Honestly, my best guess is it's a coping mechanism. For me personally, blogs like that are extremely triggering and I can't stand any type of photo or anything like that.. but for them, it helps them cope and it makes them feel better.

I'd also say people use them for the same reason people make them. It makes them feel better to reblog something that's exactly 500% what they're feeling at that second. A trigger for one person isn't always a trigger for the next, so for them, it's helpful.

I hope this answered a little bit. :)

It may just be a way for that person to express themselves. It may not seem like it's a good place for it, but for them, it might be. And though it may be triggering, it would be best that of you're not okay with that topic to do your best to avoid it.
But if they're asking for help, you should.
I hope this helps answer your question. :)

I'm the opposite of Val in this instance so I do use tumblr as described above. It's an outlet, much like writing about it or talking to someone. Pictures and quotes don't trigger me and when I'm down or feel like I want to self harm, going on tumblr and scrolling through my dash seeing those posts that I can relate to makes me feel a little better, calmer. Plus I can spend hours scrolling through tumblr so it's just a distraction at the end of the day, something to take my mind of wanting to self harm as well as venting my emotions. Also my self harm tumblr is completely anonymous, I don't have any links to who I am on it and I think one or two people from VT know of it. So I'm able to post anything I'm feeling without feeling like I'm attention seeking. It's just my private space, an online diary if you must.

So yeah, that's why I set mine up and I use other peoples to reblog posts from.
