Welp. I just cut, and I was really pissed so it was a lot deeper than normal. I'm not sure if I need stitches, or if it'll scar. It's just under an inch long, and maybe a bit more than a 1/4 of an inch wide. so it's gaping. Right before I cut, it just kind of opened and it was completely white and I could see down into it, no blood had filled in yet. A second or two passed and then it did, and it took a while for it to stop bleeding. I know I cut deep, but I don't know if the white space I saw was bone, because I cut on the bone. I'm sorry if this is gross, I don't know how else to explain it. It's stopped bleeding, and most of the blood is cleared from the it now so it just looks white again. Do you know if I should get stitches? And if i don't, will it scar??? thank you!

It will most definitely scar. As the others have said, definitely go get it checked out.

professional medical advice is probably best; go to the local medical center or GP and they'll be able to do whats best for your health :)

You should definitely get stitches if it's gaping, you could get a bad infection, however, if they find out that this was an act of self harm, you may spend a few nights in a mental facility.

I guess I'd have to actually see the wound to give you advice on that. From experience I guess it will scar sooner or later but if you don't clean the wound property it gets most likely infected and that could end up bad. So for the sake of your health I'd advice you to go to a medical center.

I very highly doubt that you've cut right down the bone, the stuff you're seeing when you're cutting deep is soft tissue fat. It's a layer there to protect your skin, it's not meant to be broken but either way, if it's gaping and you can't control the bleeding/the bleeding doesn't stop, you will need to seek the help of a professional who can treat it properly. Trust me, it's not worth treating it on your own because you will end up infecting yourself. It will scar whatever you do, but for minimal scaring, get it looked at.

It sounds like something I had. Get it checked out by a doctor or through A&E, and they'll probably give you paper stiches. If you don't know what they are, they are basically thin strips of paper with a strong adhesive on the other side that stick both sides of the scar together. And yes, there definitely will be a scar, and it will stay for some time.
