I support full, absolute bodily autonomy except for certain groups of people who can't make their own decisions about their bodies because of their mental state. This would extend to children, the mentally ill/retarded, people who are drugged or highly intoxicated, and possibly people with a profound addiction that supersedes and inhibits their brains natural decision making process. If you're not sure what you support, answer these 3 questions. Keep in mind that this only applies to mentally stable adults, and none of the groups I just mentioned.

Do you support laws that make wearing seat belts or motorcycle helmets mandatory?

Do you support making hard drugs illegal?

Do you support prostitution being illegal?

I 100% back laws about seat belts and motorcycle helmets. They are there to protect people.

I 100% support making hard drugs illegal. Added to that I also think that cigarettes and alcohol should be as well, but that's beside the point.

I really don't know about the prostitution thing. I don't think that anyone should ever have to resort to that, and that there should be help for people who get caught up in it and want out, but I definitely don't think those men and women should get fines or jail time, because they're just doing what thing think they have to do.

Do you support laws that make wearing seat belts or motorcycle helmets mandatory? Aye.

Do you support making hard drugs illegal? Aye.

Do you support prostitution being illegal? Nay.

What exactly are you thinking on bodily autonomy? I disagree on hard drugs more because of harm to others than harm to self (even if that also is a big problem).

just f.y.i. full bodily autonomy would be impossible to achieve even in an anarchist society.

with that out of the way, I think people should have a decent degree of personal freedom insofar as they avoid engaging in certain habits that are destructive to themselves and others. legal discouragement and social stigmas against risky/dangerous behavior and habits are some ways that societies maintain order, which would be a lot harder to do otherwise. basically, egregious fuck-ups should be cracked down upon and made to carry penalties too high for most people to risk. but as long as you behave yourself you'll be fine.

Do you support laws that make wearing seat belts or motorcycle helmets mandatory?: Yes.

Do you support making hard drugs illegal?: I support making them illegal to supply.

Do you support prostitution being illegal?: No. But I support heavy regulation.

In some Nordic countries it's illegal to pay for a prostitute but not to be one.

Would you support a system like that?

causing harm physical or mental to the person and those around them, such as for example hard drugs that alter one's decision-making capacity and ability to assess risk, or hyper-promiscuous sexual behavior that spreads disease and emotional damage. pathological overeating to the point of morbid obesity is another example. all of these reduce life expectancy, physical and mental health and lead to a lower quality of life (that's the destruction).

But how much 'harm' is too much 'harm'?

How many girls hearts must I break before you lock me up for causing severe emotional stress and trauma?

---

I'm also confused as to why you would care if someone you don't know does something to themselves.

I think I would. It would be a better system than the one we have.
