I'm a rising sophomore in high school. I didn't play on the team last year but I didn't try out either. This years tryouts were this past weekend and I was out of town for them but I talked to coach and he said I could just come to the first couple practices and he is going to evaluate me and see if I make the team then. I'm really nervous that I won't make the team and need some advice on how to calm down so that during practice I play relaxed and not all tense and mess up. I'm pretty good at soccer but so are all the kids on the team and I am freaking out.

I play badminton competitively and usually what I do to relax is before a match (is seems silly) is take a long hot bath - usually in the morning before I get ready to go. I use oils and scents to help loosen myself up.
To keep my focus I usually drink a good quality mineral water and I always try and regulate my breathing.
Before any match starts I close my eyes and think of something that motivates me - for me it's a small phrase that I say under my breath to myself
Then I exhale, open my eyes and I'm ready for all that the match throws at me.
Hope you'll do good! X

I was in your exact position my freshman year of high school. Basically, I just treated it as if I had already made the team. I didn't pressure myself and play as if it were a tryout because I knew I would mess up. (And BTW I am in no way a great soccer player) I just did the best I could and I ended up making the team. I hope this helps and good luck!

I play volleyball, but when I begin to stress out, I begin to smile and jump about. I try not to think about it, and only think about positives.
It doesn't work for everyone, but it could work.
Breathing slowly and calmly may also help. It sounds like it never works, but if you concentrate on your breathing, you feel more relaxed.
Good luck with your try outs~ :D

Just keep calm and try not to think about it, if you are good then you probably will enter the team. If you feel you need to improve at something try some dribbling exercise, dribbling is all in soccer, if you can do that well , you can do everything :)

I play soccer too. The best way is before the try out or the game in your case do some conditioning like 30 minutes, and keep focus in doing the best you can. Forget the other guys they are in the same situation. My Dad always says Winners focus on winning, losers focus on winners.
