What are your thoughts of the purge? If it really happened would you be happy or scared? Would you participate? Do you think the purge should be an actual thing?

If you don't know what the Purge is then here's a little description of it.

- The Purge, a twelve-hour period held from 7:00 PM March 21 to 7:00 AM March 22 is an event held annually during which all crime (including theft, rape and murder) is completely legal. The only rules during the Purge is that government officials "ranking 10 or higher" must remain unharmed and the usage of weaponry above "Class 4" is forbidden. Also, police and emergency services are suspended during this time period. Anyone who doesn't follow the rules of The Purge will be executed. Anyone who isn't Purging is asked to please stay indoors, your government thanks you for your participation.

My answers and opinions.

- I think the Purge is sort of a good thing

- If the Purge actually happened I'd be seriously scared, I'd become paranoid of the thought of someone coming after me or the people I love.

- I would participate if there was no murdering or raping involved, only theft.

- No I don't think it should be a real thing, it should just stick to fantasy.

The first movie annoyed the heck out of me, the sequel I didn't see yet. I think the Purge sets up a perfect example of a dystopia. I would be scared if it did happen. Either way, you have to participate...it's just that the rich have more of an advantage with better equipment to protect themselves...clearly you don't see that in the first movie because *spoiler alert* those mask guys practically showed us how easy it was to break down the metal thing protecting the door and windows.

its a ridiculous idea and the onlt part i would "participate" in is shooting the living piss out of someone breaking into my home or my belongings.

It's a stupid premise, because the cost of the damage caused during the 12 hours would almost certainly outweigh any benefit to society from the 12 hour purge.

It would cause more problems when the purge ends.

Honestly, in the movie, it was really only a way to get rid of the lower class citizens, the ones that couldn't protect themselves. Also, that damn movie scarred me for life. If there was a real purge...I wouldn't know what to do.

This is the main problem with it. There would be billions of dollars worth of damage to buildings, roads, houses, and infrastructure. Plus, I doubt it would actually do very much to deter crime.

It would scare the crap out of me, besides after seeing the first purge where the gate was ripped to shreds it never made me feel safe in my neighborhood (I live in a gated neighborhood). So no I would not want that to happen.

Well, that's unconstitutional so... nope.

It looks like it has it's ups and downs because crime will be down on other times than the puge, etc etc etc but in reality it will never work like that.
It brings way too many problems in law and people will still want to commit crimes in other times than the purge, because than people won't expect it!

I'd sure as hell not be in favor of it. You never know who'll want to murder you every year. Don't cover someone's shift for them, next thing you know they're shoving a blade down your neck.

I don't like the premise of it. I know we have crime now but unless your country is the size of Iceland it would be near impossible to render all crime nonexistent until one day. What I hate about it is if your friends or relatives are murdered and or raped then you are told, "Too bad. It was during Purge so it was all fair game." It would also render anyone homeless and poor as victims since only the financially well-enabled would be able to fortify their property and selves. Sadly this could cause more harm than good, especially to infrastructure. The crime in that one night could outweigh the crime toll in months' time.
In the end it may sound good on paper, until you bring up reality.

no i think there are laws for a reason and theres a reason it was a horror movie most things that are illegal should stay that way rape theft and murder are all very bad things and i see no reason to take part in them and i think people who do should be jailed if everything is legal then many terribe things could be done including harming people and kids

No, the Purge would deteriorate society as we know it. It would set forth the notion that murder is okay, that rape is okay, etc.. all of which would corrupt the minds of the youth.

Also the fact that government officials and politicians would get to be exempt is dumb. If they pass the laws they also need to follow them. Honestly it's like "we'll let you kill anyone you want during these 12 hours, except for us."

I'd like to say I'd do something cool like steal a car or blow something up, but in reality I would probably just lock myself in my closet and cry.

Well thankfully nothing like that will ever be allowed to happen, and thankfully I live in the UK so I am safe, as for some reason things like that only seem to happen in the USA...Right...Or if it did ever happen I would damned well hope so....If it happened over here I would move to another country, and if it was world wide....I would go fecking live on a deserted island on my own....

Don't be so sure about that.....Fearing 'Louisville Purge,' high school postpones scrimmage

I am kidding of course. If police do a good job of deterring people from taking this seriously, the outcome of this prank/stunt will be uneventful. But it is a little distributing that people actually entertain the premise..., that something of this nature is perfectly okay, morally and ethically. It makes one pose the question..,"What is wrong with the people".

Well in all honesty, it would not surprise me if not only the USA, decided to do something on the scale of The Purge, but anywhere in the world. It is in human nature to kill itself. But just look at the past events, is what happened during the holocaust much different, or even some of the things that are happening around the world today? To some extent it is already happening in some places.

I feel it is wrong for the second purge film to be called Anarchy. Anarchy has been given a bad name. The purge represents more Individualist anarchism over normal anarchism.
